    Overheated soap, my new favorite

How did you do the drops?

How are you offsetting the cost of Olive Oil?

High oleic sunflower or safflower oil is a good option.

Adding lye into only 1.1 water and the rest of water (up to 2:1 w:l) into the oils

Hey, sorry nobody has answered you. I add additives to my lye solution. I don’t know if honey should be added to lye or not as I’ve never used it. For adding milk I would certainly reduce the super fat or try and figure out how much lye is needed to saponify all the milk in the lye...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have a $15 gift card in my WSP account and I don’t know how it got there, but I’m dang sure gonna use it!

What natural, easy to find additives have you experimented with?

I use tussah silk in every batch of soap I make.

Would you do it? Use more of a particular EO than is recommended? Any other recommendations?

If I were to use essential oils in my soap I would follow IFRA guidelines because for some reason pure essential oils actually bother me but not fragrance oils. I do go over the IFRA for fragrance oils, but I’m not selling and my friends and family have been fine with my soap. I have only gone...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I can’t decide which one I like more, but I think I like the champagne more. I’m gonna order the bigger bottles to soap with. I think these would go great with JS Lime Kicker that I’m also obsessed about.

Have you tried BB champagne or ginger ale? They are pure heaven.

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

Misbehaving fragrance oils do weird things. Just keep a journal of each scent you use and how it behaves. That’s what I do. I have a fragrance oil that I just love but it is the most finicky thing to use.

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

I They don’t look like steric acid spots to me either. I think it’s just the fragrance oil doing something funny to the soap itself.

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

They almost look like glycerin with how transparent they are. Were your oils old? If you saw chunks in your soap then it probably did rice. Idk.

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

Does it smell bad? Rancid soap smells horrible.

    Allergic to lye based soap?

Then sadly, you probably can’t tolerate lye based soaps due to the pH. You can make syndet bars from scratch. You can continue trying different oils to make soap if you would like to do that. Try making soap without fragrance, essential oils or colorants.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks, I was extremely sad and upset about it last night, but I feel better this morning. I was in total shock last night. I ordered another one already. I will never put it in the oven again. I’m getting a heating pad. Only thing that will go in the oven are items I know that can withstand the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

My mother turned on the oven and my Custom Craft Tools column mold completely melted. No saving the soap. I’m gutted.

Tried my third column pull through. We will see how it goes

    Allergic to lye based soap?

Have you tried lard soap? Some people just can’t handle soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Looks great to me. I’ve never tried marble soap. Is it the colors you don’t like? I have cut soap wrong before.

spring '24 goats milk lemon soap

People have kindly answered your question in this thread. You go with the IFRA guidelines of the fragrance oil as a start. By default I use 1oz per pound of oils as I like a strong scent and I’m not selling it.

spring '24 goats milk lemon soap

I’m confused. Are you saying you’ve been making cold process or hot process soap for 20 years?
