    Preservative question

How do you prevent your soap from going bad? What calculations do you use? My soaps keep going bad. I tried using a dehumidifier thinking it was humidity causing them to go bad, but nope, still had 2 batches go south. I did make one batch using a bit more lye and water and added ROE. That batch...

    Preservative question

I use mainly Palm oil and palm kernel oil. I did add some ROE to my last batch of soap( I like to add it to the soap as I am making it). I just added like three drops. I just ordered a jewelers scale to see if I could measure it out better. Not sure how much to add to my 2 lbs of soap...

    Preservative question

I was wondering what preservatives do you all add to your soaps to prevent rancidity? I know that ROE is One of them. Also, how do you measure out the ROE and other preservatives since they are such a small amount? My scale only goes down to one gram. Do you guys use a special scale?

    Ideal humidity for curing location??

What would be the ideal humidity level for your soap curing location? I know humidity is Not Good for soaps curing. I am running a dehumidifier and the humidity where my soaps are is around 42 right now with the dehumidifier going and I have a container of damprid sitting on the shelf the soaps...

    Curing question

Where do you purchase your sodium Gluconate? I think maybe that is what I need, to add a salt. I added some ROE, but maybe adding a salt would help preserve my soaps and help prevent rancidity. I am not sure where to purchase it. I am guessing I would get a food grade sodium gluconate?

    Measuring out ROE?

How do you measure out the ROE to add to your soaps ? I use a regular small scale for measuring my oils, but since I'm only adding such a tiny amount of ROE, what kind of scale or measuring device do you use in order to get the right amount? Also from what I read it says to add no more than 0.5...

    Curing question

I believe my soaps go rancid because of humidity. The problem seems only in the summer when it's more humid. I keep my AC on and run a fan, but it's maybe just not enough. I have very few ingredients in my soap so it's not that. I use distilled water and oils are good. No cross contamination...

    Curing question

I am getting ready to make a batch of soap and this time will be adding ROE to my soap to see if this will help prevent rancidity. Here is the thing, I usually place my soap out and let a fan run while it cures over 4 to 6 weeks. Here is the issue, we have our house up for sale and people are...

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

Thanks for the suggestions. I honestly think you are right, I need to add a chelator and the ROE. I think it might at least help prevent the rancidity. For me humidity definitely is playing a role because in the winter I can make soap with No preservatives and it never goes randcid. I had this...

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

Thank you for sharing your story. Very interesting. So basically when you started adding the ROE and EDTA to your soap batches, they did not go rancid as much? Mine are not even being stored, they go rancid two to three weeks into curing. It's carzy because I can smell it before there are any...

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

Can I add it to my soap batch when I am making the soap?

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

Yes use distilles water. No metal contact at all. They are not in direct sunlight, but not exactly in the dark either. The odd thing is all winter long I can make them, no problem. I think it might have something to do with the humidity.

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

I bought all new oils and molds for this last batch. Only thing I can think of is that maybe it has something to do with the humidity in the house. I cannot think of anything else. I can try adding some ROE or sodium citrate and see if that helps. I'm at a loss...

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

My oils are okay though. The soap goes rancid two to three weeks into curing. I am not sure, but my only thought is maybe it has to do with humidity in the house? I do not have this issue in the winter when the humidity is very low. I do keep my AC on though so not sure why this is happening. I...

Will sodium Citrate prevent soap going rancid?

Hey all. I know I have made some posts a month ago about my soap that keeps going rancid on me two to three weeks into curing. The only thing I can think of is that I am not adding a preservative of some sort to prevent the oils from going. I know someone on here mentioned adding Sodium CItrate...

    Oily soap?

    Oily soap?

The soap is more of the color of the palm oil, like a yellowish. I took them out of the molds and set them out and notice a couple of them have yellow spots. I am not sure what this is, but wouldn't this be too soon for this to be DOS only two days after making them. They feel gross and greasy...

    Oily soap?

Yeah that makes total Sense what your saying about the lye. This is the bottle of lye I have been using. I had my hubby mix the lye and water solution outside so as not to breathe it in the house. We always do it this way, but it was hot and humid out. He didn't leave the container of lye open...

    Oily soap?

Hmm, not sure. I compared mine to yours, but I don't add any fragrance at all to my soaps. I see that yours had added fragrance. I've used my SoapCalc recipe several times already with no issues until now. I checked my scale too and it was good. Maybe it was the lye?

    Oily soap?

Would you leave them sit in the molds longer or take them out?
