    Washing soap materials question?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering, is it safe to just wash your soap making materials( silicone molds, spoons, containers, etc..) in regular dish washing soap? Also, is it okay to wash molds and dry them with paper towels? I know there is a lot of issues with contamination which can cause a...

What do you cook your HP soap in??

Okay that is good to hear. I was just worried the scuffs would maybe cause issues with the soap making. What kind of utensils do you use to stir your soap? I use a silicone spatula. However, I use plastic spoons to measure out my palm kernal oil. Is plastic okay to use? I know we have to avoid...

What do you cook your HP soap in??

Hey everyone, Just wondering what kind of pot you use to make your HP soap? I have been using a ceramic crock pot to cook mine in. After using it a couple times, it has scuffs( I think it is from the lye and maybe when using the stick blender. Anyhow, just wondering what you all use to make...

    Rancid soap??

Hey there. I am having some luck with the rancid issue. A person on here adivsed that I switch my recipe adding a little more lye and water which in turn lowered the Fat perventage to in my soap. My original recipe from soap calc called for 128.18 of Lye and 260.25 of water. Well I instead...

What actually happens during the "cure" period?

This is interesting. I can only use palm oil and palm kernel oil in my soaps ( I am allergic to other oils). I make mine HP and the soap is always hard. For me when I made it using the CP method, it did stay on the softer side.

What actually happens during the "cure" period?

I will say that I am trying to figure out the whole curing thing myself. I usually cure mine for 5 to 6 weeks. However, I will say when I use my soaps at the 6 week mark, they do not change much at all after that. Meaning each bar lasts the same amount of time. I make HP soap, and will say it...

    Curing question

I make my soap using palm oil, and palm kernel oil. I usually do a hot process. Is 4 weeks a good cure time? I usually cure them for 5 to 6 weeks, but recently ran out and my current batch has cured for about only 4 weeks now. Is 4 weeks long enough for my soap?

    Lye brand

I usually get my sodium hydroxide from Belle Chemicals. It says it is at minimum 99% pure. Well I had one container kind of go bad a few months back( I think their was moisture in the bottle), so I orderd my lye from Essential Depot this time. I made my soap and it is curing( it seems okay so...

Experiment on figuring out why my soaps keep going rancid

Thank you for the response and all the help. I agree with all you have said. I will try making the batch again with the ROE and more lye like before. I bought a jeweler's scale to measure out the ROE. How much should I put for 2 lbs of soap? I just added like a few drops this last time. What is...

Experiment on figuring out why my soaps keep going rancid

I story soaps on a shelf ( plastic) in the living room area. Our house is small ( we have open concept kitchen living room). I know it's not ideal, but it is the least humid place in the house. Our bedroom has the bathroom where we shower so it gets more humid in our bedroom. I Figured the...

Experiment on figuring out why my soaps keep going rancid

Experiment on figuring out why my soaps keep going rancid

Thank you for the input. I think it's impossible to keep air away from curing soaps since they are suppose to be in the air to cure? They are not in any direct sunlight. My dehumidifier kept the humidity between 36 and 42 percent at all times, sometimes lower. We have our AC running all the...

Experiment on figuring out why my soaps keep going rancid

Hey everyone. So I know I've posted here a few times about my soap going rancid. Well I've been experimenting trying different things. My soap is pretty bland because I am allergic to So many things so the only oil I can tolerate is palm oil and palm kernel oil. My recipe is below. Distilled...
