    Soda ash

I just love how much I can learn here. I never thought of the oils needing heating since my oils are liquid all year round. I always thought heating oils was for peeps in colder weather. I shall look into heating oils in the next few weeks. I am so terribly lazy as a soaper. 🤭

    Soda ash

First time I've seen my soap have such a weird ash pattern. I've got the usual top and sides but never sandwiched in the middle. I'm guilty of never melting or heating my oils. Locally, the coldest it ever gets is 25C. When I made the blue soap, it was probably 28C. Could be due to me...

    Soapee

I've been on SoapCalc for most of my soaping history. This looks like a wonderful upgrade to try out. Thanks @DeeAnna

    Soda ash

Just wanted to share my most recent ash soaps. Interesting way this red clay soap developed ash randomly in the middle. It was already this way when I cut. So I'm just gonna roll with it. This one I forgot to wrap after cutting. Developed what I like to call snowflakes of ash. Fits in with...

April 2024 SMF Challenge - CAKE!

I'm so glad my first attempt at frosting turned out better than expected. This challenge really pushed me to try frosting which I've always been hesitant. Skill unlocked! Posting my abandoned marble cakes. Marble 1, like the colour but not as marbley as I hoped. Marble 2, horrible colour...

ENTRY THREAD for the April 2024 Challenge - Cake!

Abandoned my first 2 attempts in favor of cupcakes. Tea for 2.

April 2024 SMF Challenge - CAKE!

If only I could combine my attempt 1 and attempt 2 together. As it is, I'm abandoning them both in favor of cupcakes I made last week using leftover batter. Gonna frost them this wkend and see how they end up.

    Neat Way to Pour?

Screenshot for those that can't view. Interesting pour. The inside probably would be kinda layered.

Questions re Zany's No Slime Castille soap

I'm using some ZNSC that's about 4 months old. I hang it in the shower with a net bag. Squishy layer isn't as obvious through the net bag so I don't really feel it. The bar doesn't get too soft also. It does dent slightly if pressed hard or dropped but generally holds up well.

April 2024 SMF Challenge - CAKE!

I am enlightened! I must have misread the notice. Do I qualify to join the challenge?

April 2024 SMF Challenge - CAKE!

Look at the poor spatula swirl on my tester cupcake. Obviously I've never frosted anything before. My cheap piping tips just arrived so maybe I'll give frosting another go.

    My Pyrex Adventure

Ahh... clay seems like a much better idea than what I read online about bread. The flashlight idea sounds good too. Mental notes for future reference.

    My Pyrex Adventure

Glad you're fine! I dread the thought of your cleanup. It must have been hard with so much little bits everywhere. How did you get all the shards cleaned up? Vacuum? Wiping bread all over?

What type of a container do you use to mix your water (liquid) and lye?

I use plastic 2 and plastic 5 containers. Some are measuring cups and some are lidded containers. After 1 year, they're still soaping with me. Lighter to carry since I have weak wrists. I soap small 500g batches so a 1L measuring cup and some 500ml cups works for me. I scoop my lye with either a...

    Soda ash

Wrapped up my cut bars! I misjudged the size of cling wrap both times so had to double wrap them. Sheesh.. It takes more cling wrap than I expected! Now I know why my charcoal bars have a grey "skin"! I though I wasn't wrapping the top properly.

    Soap setting up too fast.

Yeah.. I whisk a bit, let it rest maybe 10-20 secs? Then check how thick it is and continue. Especially with this OP, I find that gentle whisking gets it to emulsion quickly. Even just sitting there it sets up pretty fast. If I want a slower tracing batter, I use half of this OP with half...

    Soap setting up too fast.

I'm just gonna add that I don't SB my soaps as my SB is for food and I don't wanna buy another. That said, I hand whisk all my soaps and so far so good. I use my OP that is known to accelerate to help balance out the slower trace due to non-SB. Even with hand whisking, this particular fast...

    Soda ash

@AliOop , do the cut bars stick to each other after you unwrap them after? This seems like a good idea! I realize my cut bars sometimes developed ash after a few days.
