What soapy thing have you done today?

I’d never heard of those before and just earlier saw a soap made with these that was the most beautiful shade of green! I can’t wait to see what you make with it.

    Citric acid lye solution problem.

I master batch my lye, so if I mix any of my additional water with an additive I usually add that to my oils (and if any of my additional liquid is something besides water, I put that in my oils too). The only thing that gets added in my premixed lye solution is plain water, and sodium lactate...

SMF JANUARY 2024 CHALLENGE – Mini Drop [Mini Drip] Swirl

There's always something new to learn hehe. I'm just happy I wound up with a pretty soap even if I can't enter it in the challenge.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I’ve been cleaning my craft room to make space to make more soap! I found some scraps of melt and pour that I don’t know why I had or how old they were so I threw them all together and made a 1lb loaf with a tiny FO sample that I also found 😂 It took me less than 5 minutes and now I really want...

Too much superfat! What should I do?

How pretty! I would let them cure and see what happens. Maybe you like them, maybe you don't, but either way you'll learn something from it :)

SMF JANUARY 2024 CHALLENGE – Mini Drop [Mini Drip] Swirl

Well... I was wrong lol; my soap *did* set a little too much, and so I have a nearly perfectly straight line between my base layer and my swirls layer, and the swirls layer looks kind of like funny-colored camouflage. It's still a pretty soap but not at all what I was going for here. I'll try again!

    3 Year Hiatus Batch

SMF JANUARY 2024 CHALLENGE – Mini Drop [Mini Drip] Swirl

Waiting is the hardest part! *stares at freshly unmolded soap that isn’t quite ready to be cut yet* My recipe didn’t thicken up too much on me but I may have gotten it a touch thicker than I meant to in the beginning. I also had a measuring snafu splitting my batter and had to pivot my colors a...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Oh no, I didn't need to know BB has a trial size sale haha. I wish their sample bottles were bigger, though. On a similar note, I guess another soapy thing I did today was buy samples of a few of CandleScience's new soap safe scents... This is so relatable! 😂

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I rewatched the Soap Challenge videos while I cleaned up my soaping area, and I might actually get to make some soap for it tonight :) If not tonight... tomorrow for sure!

What soapy thing have you done today?

How big is your batch/how much lye did you actually use? 10.5g might not be soooooo bad, maybe? I recently forgot to account for the fact I master batch my lye and so when I measured out 140g of solution... that was only 70g of lye when I actually needed the full 140! That poor soft soap lol. I...

Feedback for first batch of cold process

I, too, had an itchy trigger finger on the stick blender my first batch for fear of false trace! It takes a lot less blending than some of us think the first time haha. My first batch was a thick disaster that I had to scoop instead of pour, and my second... was better but still too thick lol...

What's for Dinner tonight ? What are you having ?

We just had some wind here where I am but everything looks fine, nothing too unusual. I think we’re still expecting snowpocalypse this weekend though. Hopefully we don’t lose power!

How do you choose your color palettes?

Sometimes I go looking up color palettes to get ideas. I don't always get exact matches but it can help get the wheels spinning. I did that for a striped soap challenge I did. Here's an example. I do also sometimes have to mix colors to get what I want, which can be a lot of fun.

Oh I've yet to do a soap with a super fat so low, I'll give it a go. Thank you!

    Refining a Triple Butter Recipe

Thank you :) I had thought to leave the SF at 8% but for no real reason, I do everything else at 5% so it makes sense to drop it. I've used citric acid for soap scum once before but that soap is still curing so I don't know how I feel about it yet, By grippy I just mean it doesn't slide across...

    Refining a Triple Butter Recipe

I'm trying to get a triple butter recipe that I like, but I don't exactly know what I'm looking for and hoped maybe you all could help me workshop it a little before I get carried away. The first one I made was 24.6% Coconut Oil, 24.6% Olive Oil, 15.4% each Shea Butter, Mango Butter, and Cocoa...
