Coffee Soap Went A Little Odd

Ok, thanks everyone! Some kind of weird, resilient soda ash makes sense, then. I haven't seen one quite so stubborn and almost solid, I think this probably would take a good amount of scrub to get off. Luckily it looks like crema on espresso, so I won't bother ;)

Coffee Soap Went A Little Odd

It's just the outside piece that did that, the middle bars are perfect aside from the top. I suppose it's possible it didn't gel at all? But it doesn't look like the pictures of partial gel I've seen before, I think it's still discoloring from the FO. Here's another angle of a couple middle...

Coffee Soap Went A Little Odd

Hi friends! I made a coffee soap and got some unexpected results, I wondered if anyone had any thoughts about what might have happened. I used a recipe from Ellie's Everyday with a couple small modifications, mostly adjusting the liquid:lye ratio and scaling it up a touch. This is what I used...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made coffee soap today! Gosh, I hope the awful smell of mixing lye and coffee ice cubes dissipates a little lol

What soapy thing have you done today?

That’s my usual time frame too, it sounds like our soaping is fairly similar :) This one didn’t want to come out of the mold so I (perhaps mistakenly) assumed it needed a little more time. Then I had to leave and didn’t get back to it for many hours 😅lesson learned!

    Making color samples

This is on my to-do list, I've seen that video too. Thanks for the step-by-step on how you did it, I think your way will work well for me as well, when I get around to it 😅

    Base recipes

I'm still experimenting, but I think my kind of 'default' recipe when I don't want to make something different for a specific reason will be one I got from here. 50% lard 20% coconut oil 15% olive oil 10% avocado oil 5% castor oil 5% super fat

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm thinking it must have gotten a touch too hard, I left this one longer than I usually do. It was a new recipe to me, guess it just moves quickly! This one sat somewhere between 24 and 36 hours and I read about people waiting 2-3 days, do you think they aren't using wire cutters or just softer...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Cut this loaf just now, the outside has turned this darker almost oat-y color. The inside is still fairly yellow but I’m hoping it turns the same color as the tops. It also got stuck on my wire cutter, which I have never seen before so now I’m about to go on a deep dive to see what that’s...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made shae oatmeal soap today, and for some reason it came to trace faster than I expected before I even added the colloidal oats or fragrance, so I think my oats may be a little clumpy in spots due to my panicked rapid stirring to try and get it in the mold on time 😂 It turned this neat yellow...

    katili's soaps, 2024

Thank you :) I made my first soap in August. I’ve tried my hand at making a lot of different kinds of things my whole life so I usually get the basics down pretty quickly. Still have lots to learn though! The browns do look very chocolate-y! I used brown oxide (which does look a bit like cocoa...

    katili's soaps, 2024

Thank you :) It was actually one of your posts that I saw that made me want to make these bars! I don't know what hormonal nonsense it is but I feel like I'm stinkier in the summer ever since having my kids, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this works for me lol

What's for Dinner tonight ? What are you having ?

My kiddos needed extra attention this afternoon so I sadly didn't get around to making my curry. We had fancy quesadillas instead, and they were good. I'll have to make my planned meal this weekend instead.

palm oil making soap very gritty

Are you cutting with a wire cutter? That can make tiny air bubbles look like little bumps too, in addition to what the others have said.

What's for Dinner tonight ? What are you having ?

We had some stir-fry tonight. I think tomorrow I might make curry and coconut rice but we shall see.
