Whats the best way to store soaps for drying??

FTR, it takes about 16 hours to pull 3.5L of water out of the air in my 489 sq ft apartment, and I've never dropped below a 40% humidity, usually hovers 40-50% even though it's working this effectively. I really needed this! It does raise the temp around it 5F, so I keep it around the corner...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Planed and beveled a birthday gift, then sliced up my father's day gift--a fragrance free HP beer soap formulated for my dad's skin. It won't be dry by Father's Day, but he'll at least be able to open it (he's not out of his last soap gift yet anyway). Also tried to slice up a batch made...

Whats the best way to store soaps for drying??

After losing those two batches of soap to DOS and reading this thread, my new dehumidifier arrived today. Hopefully the rest of my batches stay totally sellable! Spent a few hours reading reviews Thursday morning, then ordered a Frigidaire 35 pint for $190. Cat is delighted with the box.

Any way to use CP icing on fresh-packed HP soap?

My mom was a quilter, so it sounds like a fun idea to try sometime, but the are so many soap ideas I want to try that it might be awhile before I get to it. 😅I'd probably try something simple without diagonals, like a 9 patch, if I tried anything. I love your idea of beveling the individual...

    Let's Talk Soap Frosting

THANK YOU! I've wanted to try this for awhile. Why do you add 12 oz baking soda? I've heard of people using it as an exfoliant, but what does this much baking soda do in soap? Maybe it saponifies the 1 oz stearic acid? I've always read that soap's alkaline pH makes preservatives unnecessary, and...

Whats the best way to store soaps for drying??

This is so helpful—it’s my first summer selling soap; one batch developed DOS by end of August last summer (I only had a few curing back then), but I blamed my ingredients. This summer I’ve already had two should-be-stable batches develop DOS: a 0%superfat batch of ZNC, and an entire batch of...

Any way to use CP icing on fresh-packed HP soap?

Just watched this video to learn about welding soap. Looks like she sticks the soap in a 200F oven for 10 minutes. Someone in the comments asks how it affects fragrances, and she says it’s probably no hotter than the saponification reaction. Still might be too hot for my fragile HP fragrance, so...

Any way to use CP icing on fresh-packed HP soap?

@earlene This is so helpful—thank you! How hot do you recommend CPOPing for soap welding? I’ve never tried welding; I usually just turn the oven to the lowest setting for a minute, shut it off, then put my towel-wrapped mold into the oven overnight for CPOP. Do you think that would be warm...

    What did you eat today?

If you're a gooey person, you'll enjoy it. 😂 I bought my mochigome at Hmart, but this'll help you know what to look for.

    What did you eat today?

I bought a big bag of mochi rice for 2020's harvest moon holiday (otsukimi), learned HOW MUCH WORK it is to make real mochi out of mochigome, and finally accepted this month that I'll never pound it into mochi a second time. BUT cooked mochi rice is effortless in the fancy rice cooker, and now...

    SMF June 2022 Un-Challenge - Cocoa Powder

If I include soap curls made out a slab that I poured before June 1, does this break the rules? (Worth asking, since those chocolate curls are where the cocoa powder is!)

Any way to use CP icing on fresh-packed HP soap?

This seems like a long shot, but worth asking. I have a fragile fragrance oil that won't survive CP, and I'd really love to make soap cupcakes with it. If I pour HP cupcake bases with the fragile scent, I could add CP icing, but is there a way to make the CP frosting stick to the HP cake layer...

    Let's Talk Soap Frosting

I've seen plenty of YouTube soapers use their normal soap recipe, and just let it get thick before piping--I'd love to try that sometime, bc it seems so much easier than the way I do it! I've been using this method: It's more work (separate recipe, need to melt, mix, then chill your oils...

    What a complex soap! 😅

What soapy thing have you done today?

I see what you mean; the swirl motion is a chain of wide hearts done once, then rotate the mold 180 degrees and swirl the chain of hearts in the opposite direction. (As opposed to a chain of figure 8's for the infinity/mantra swirl). And all three sections look like gradients

Pine Tar Soap Tips and Technique

Thanks for sharing that link. "Blokey blokes" is a really useful new phrase for this American.

What soapy thing have you done today?

If you spray your cardboard dividers with an acrylic sealer, you can at least reuse them! I cut mine out of bookboard and sealed them with acrylic sealer spray (and then acrylic paint when I ran out of spray). All the oasis swirl bars look gorgeous... Can't wait to see yours! It really looks...

Separating (?) batter: is it dangerous?

Felt healthy enough to try again today! Here's batch 5; seems consistent enough to scale up to using the big mold. After standing those glycerin river/alien brain bars from batch 4 next to the other batches, I realized what might've gone wrong. Batch 4 is 25% thicker than the other bars, same...

SMF May 2022 Challenge - Infinity Swirl

If you want a deadline midnight Friday night, better to say it closes 11:59pm Friday, 5/27. If you say entries are accepted 22-28, but close it the first minute of the day 5/28, that will create more confusion than you realize!
