What soapy thing have you done today?

@SideDoorSoaps My mind sees strange things: They look like preserved brain specimens in a laboratory 🤣

Whodunnit? The RBO or the floral FO?

@lsg Thank you. Rose is a good mixer. It smelled lovely with the strawberry too. If I use rose again, it will be from a different supplier though!

    Good to know, thank you!

Whodunnit? The RBO or the floral FO?

It was a new jug of RBO with an expiration date of Feb 2025, so that's not it. I knew the Rose FO was naughty, but I'd used the Strawberry FO before with no issues, which is why I used half of each to balance. Even though it smells so good, I tossed the rest of the Rose so I wouldn't be...

Whodunnit? The RBO or the floral FO?

That's a really good point, @dibbles . I'll give the RBO another go with a dependable FO.

Whodunnit? The RBO or the floral FO?

I made the fastest soap-on-a-stick ever today. I'm talking supersonic speed seizing! Part of my scent was florals, so I was ready for fast and repeated as I added the lye, "Work quick, it's gonna be fast." SB'ed only 4 or 5 seconds and within seconds it was too thick to pour. I spooned...

How to use this OO substitute in soap?

UPDATE: Seconds after I posted this Iberia called me back. The 80% sunflower is not high-oleic. So glad to have my suspicions confirmed before I made a batch! I have a call in to Iberia asking whether the sunflower portion of this oil blend is high oleic. I will update when I hear back from...

Thank you again! DeAnna's is a wealth of information!

How to use this OO substitute in soap?

Thank you, @lsg Silly me -- I should have checked the SAP before asking. I'm glad to see the SAP for regular and HO sunflower is the same for both. My big concern is about a higher risk of rancidity, but I won't know that for months at least.

How to use this OO substitute in soap?

I bought this Iberia Sunflower/Olive Oil blend trying to cut back my olive oil costs, but now I'm nervous about using it. It's advertised as for "high heat frying" and only 14% saturated fat. It's 50% polyunsaturated but only 35.7% monounsaturated. Classic Bells says it takes 70% mono to be...

    Soap Scraps Ad Infinitum

I also usually bevel a day or two after cutting. The shreds are still soft enough to squwoosh together. I sort of knead them together with my fingers until they're soft and doughy.

    Soap Scraps Ad Infinitum

After I bevel, I use the shreds like soap dough and press them into molds to decorate soap tops.

Trouble shooting and improving goat milk soap recipe

I love my oat milk soaps. I make my own oat milk double-strength by using only half the regular amount of water with the oats. I make it in big batches and freeze it in ice cube trays. When I make soap, I mix half the liquid amount as water with my lye and use the (melted) oat milk for the...

@firefly24 I'd like to know how your M&P embeds do over time in your CP soap

Here's an update on my experience with embeds: Even though it's quicker and easier, I won't be using M&P for embeds in my CP soap anymore. As the soap ages and cures, it shrinks. The embeds don't, so they end up feeling like a lump in the soap. CP embeds take more time but are definitely...

Those are beautiful, @Vicki C ! I'm guessing you used neons to get those striking colors?

    Soap Dipping

@katili That's beautiful! I love the color combo and the texturing you got. Can you tell me about how much soap batter you would need to dip 10 bars or so?

    Soap Dipping

Has anyone tried this? I've been looking at some videos and the results are interesting and beautiful. Sadly the design would be gone after the soap is used for a while since it's only on the surface, but lovely while it lasts.

    Stick blender questions

Just something odd about different SBs: I replaced my old Chefman SB with a Braun. The Braun has a very shallow bell, and I'm finding it blends much slower than my old one that had a deep bell. Less risk of over-blending.

What makes this happen on stain sticks?

I'm very confident about the quality of my lye. And previous posters in this thread say it takes 4 to 8 hours for their SS on cavity molds as well. It's just one of those things, and I'm fine with giving it the time it needs.
