SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

Me too! I'm thankful I caught it before the entry thread closes. My 4th try is now poured and wrapped up for nighty night...LOL! The entries are all so beautiful! Such talent for sure!

SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

The Dollar Tree near me doesn't have any good pitchers. I went to all the dollar stores and couldn't find anything with a longer spout. I'm like Goldilocks, one is too short, one is too long, and maybe my new one will be just right! I don't know if I will ever need to use the bowl w/o the...

SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

It didn't accelerate at all. I don't know about slowing it down though. I'll try it again when I'm not so stressed with a challenge! My first try I poured too thick (different FO) so I was worried about that happening again. It was weird because by the time I poured the 4th layer into the...

SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

The mixing bowl I used for my 2nd try had a short spout which caused me to spill about 1/2 cup of batter down the outside of the mold, but the diameter of the bowl was better than my first try (I hope). I did just order this Amazon mixing bowl for future batches. Has anyone used one like it...

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

You're about 2 hours south of me; I'm near the Kennedy Space Center. Where do you keep all those goats? My hair isn't bright anymore. The older I get the more it turns into a non-color. It was carrot-top red when I was young so I was picked on pretty mercilessly. Only 'old' people liked it...

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

Thank you @Cheeky Goat. I'll look for it for sure! It is weird how that works. I recall @AliOop talking about that same phenomenon. So there's some point on the spectrum where the relationship of lye to water becomes inverse to the worklife? If I make these again, big IF, I think I'll use my...

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

OMG, what a fiasco this turned out to be…can you say soap on a stick?! Also, the laurel oil was so pungent I had to don my half-face respirator as soon as I opened the bottle. It reminds me of a mixture of pine tar and creosote from my old horse days only this smells deadly! I don’t know what...

SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

I finally got to unmold and cut my first attempt after a long 73 hours and boy what a letdown! I figured the last color into the mold wouldn't have much feathering because the batter had thickened up quite a bit, but there was less than I expected throughout the entire loaf. It's a bummer...

    Babassu oil

I get babassu for soap from Soapers Choice. It's usually liquid, but right now it is more like 90° CO. I get babassu for deo from The Sage because of the defunk thread @earlene referenced. It stays more solid all year long, whereas the SC will become liquidy as we get further into our summer months.

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

@JuliaNegusuk I don't think I would like slimy soap. I don't even like them if they're too slippery in my hand. I thought if I made it with a higher percentage of laurel oil it would cut back on the tendency toward sliminess. I'm kind of scattered in the same way you are - hence my current...

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

Hi Julia, It sounds like its a 22/78 laurel/olive oil blend. I read that as the soap ages it does lose the green interior, but that's a good thing unless it goes rancid. I ordered the oil yesterday so I probably won't be able to make it for a week or two. I'm excited about it. How do you like...

SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

After the last election, I collected some of the yard signs to use for dividers in my molds and to prop up my mold at an angle. They really come in handy and they hold up very well.

    Distilled water shortage??

🐈 I only see the Fancy Feast food missing from the shelves at Publix and that's the one my spoiled feral cat prefers. Maybe it's time to take him off of it all together? He gets dry food too so it wouldn't be too much of a change - he just knows how to pull on the old heartstrings when I try...

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

Thanks. I'm leaning towards a 3-4% range. Do you find Aleppo slimey or snotty?

Superfat Suggestions for Aleppo type recipe

Thanks, @shunt2011. I've never used a high olive oil soap so we shall see. I'm hoping it will feel good on one dry skin patch I have on my foot caused by chronic psoriasis breakouts.
