Agree about the FO causing ash. I just tested 12 FO from the same batch of soap and there are varying degrees of ash, none to heavy. And yes, the lavender type had the heaviest ash.

Sounds good. I'll make sure to do the same in both samples. I have been using sodium citrate but I just got EDTA and Sodium Gluconate so I'll probably use that combo (SG/EDTA).
