    High Butter Soap + Ash

I made a small batch 3 days ago. It’s still a bit soft when I unmolded it. But the ash is still there even after covering...Is it common to get ash so soon? That seems weird. I’m stumped. I’m going to gel my next batch and see if it makes a difference.

Is there a way of getting this specific design in a loaf of soap?

I second the I Dream in Soap channel. Definitely subscribe to Lisa as her content is extremely helpful and she tackles a lot of the techniques that are harder to find good tutorials for. 😊

    SMF June 2020 Un-Challenge - Half & Half

So this is my um “stylized” pink grapefruit soap. I wanted to try my hand at soap dough so I made some grapefruit slices last week, sliced them up and used them as embeds here. I’m still learning how this vegan/palm free base behaves and I should have left this sit for about a week before...

    Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate

I know EDTA and CA are popular chelators but does anyone use GLDA (Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate)? I was wondering about the usage rate in CP soap?

    High Butter Soap + Ash

Are soaps made with a higher butter percentage more prone to ash or is that just incidental? I have a recipe I've been working on that has 27% Shea and 15% cocoa butter and I soap at 33% Lye concentration between 100-110ish degrees. I CPOPed last time hoping it would curb the ash and it did...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made vegan palm free soap dough for the first time and messed around with some pink grapefruit slices. Won’t be adding texture to them next time as they look shriveled when dry. I’m sure it won’t matter much as an embed. I just need to refine my scale. These were bigger than I intended. It will...

Could this be lye crystals? Or...?

I think you may be correct about the clay....the clay is the consistency of plaster when I plane it I can feel the texture variation...

Could this be lye crystals? Or...?

I made Zany’s No Slime Castile a few days ago. I did not deviate from the recipe—attempted a skinny shimmy and it came out rather wonky—oh well lol😂. Anyway I cut the bars way too soon and warped them getting them out of the evil evil American Soap Supplies Tall Skinny mold. I keep forgetting...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I tried my first go at what I hope will be a good base recipe in time. Because it is vegan/palm free the butter amounts were higher than I’ve worked with before but I managed it without too much acceleration—I’m trying to lay off the stick blender but it’s hard. Also trying to CPOP for the first...

    Red or White?

I like the white a lot but the red is very intriguing.

    Mica matches

I wish MM would have consistent pictures of all of their micas in product. It has been a hassle going through customer reviews trying to find a picture of how their micas perform in cp and even then it can be a crapshoot.

When is too early to test soap?

Thank you. 😊 Right now I have a OO, CO, Soy wax, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Avocado and Apricot Kernel oils on hand. I'm trying to figure out a good base without palm/lard/tallow. Im approaching it like a challenge.....because it is lol

When is too early to test soap?

I've been playing around with making 100% CO soap with a 20% SF and my last two batches have passed the zap test. I've used a 33% lye solution with soapcalc and was meticulous about measuring in grams. One batch has been curing for almost 4 weeks and the other for almost 2 weeks. I ran out of...
