What soapy thing have you done today?

I made one of my regular soaps today to be ready for after Christmas when people no longer want my Christmas themed soaps. BUT, the most important thing I completed today was my website. It took forever and I am still a little nervous about going live. I switched off maintenance mode and just...

    Alkanet Root in lye water

I tried it in the lye water. The smell was awful. I ended up with a light brown soap. Not very attractive. It is still brown after a week. I prefer oil infusio.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yesterday I tried my first attempt at a butterfly swirl. Today was spent trying to get the mold out of the wooden box. Fridge for 3 hours didn’t help. Freezer for 20 minutes didn’t either. Resorted to pallet knife down the sides and brute force. Spoiled the ends a bit but they would be wasted...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I cut the Chocolate orange soap that I made yesterday. Chocolate in soap make it very soft ( higher sf). I am guessing this will take longer to cure but it will still be ready by Christmas :)

I will give that a go with a small batch and see how it goes. Thank you 😊

T Thank you for your reply. Yeah, I figured microwave would be dangerous. If I need to wait for it to warm up in a bowl of water then I can just as easily wait for it to cool down if I make it fresh. does cold lye work for you? Any problems with stearic spots?

I master batch oils and butters in the same way. I tried with lye but find it is then too cold and I get stearic spots. I warm the oils in the microwave but what to do about cold lye? I have been working with chocolate for my Christmas recipes. Here are chocolate mint and chocolate orange (uncut).

October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

This is my first try at this technique. I think I poured too thin as when I swapped sides the batter went flat on the bottom for the first pour. It is a salt bar and colored with alkanet and ultramarine, scented with lavender and Palma rosa EOs.

I made these salt soaps today. Tipped with an alkanet infusion.
