SMF Challenge November 2021 - Rainbows

Sorry for being absent guys, I think I missed an alert about somebody commenting and then I didn't get any more alerts about this thread. I was just coming back to post a reminder about the entry thread opening next Sunday in the hopes of boosting this Challenge as I thought there hadn't been...

    What EO to use?

I concur about fir! Fir smells like what you'd expect from pine (I once thought I had pine EO and it turned out to be fir). I think I remember finding Highbrow by eocalc a very woodsy scent, like a woodshop. I once subbed fir for the cedar, which made it smell more "fresh" and less woodsy. It...

SMF Challenge November 2021 - Rainbows

For the November Challenge, we're going to explore Rainbows! I don't know about where all you guys & girls are, but the weather's been pretty dreary around here and I thought we could all use some color in our lives :-) Image by modern soapmaking * * * * PLEASE READ ALL RULES for the...

    Does this recipe look okay?

Looks wonderful! The only thing I'd consider changing is the amount of water. The standard setting on soapcalc is calculated as a percentage of oil weight, but the forum consensus is thst it's better to calculate based on the amount of lye you use (the concentration of the lye solution you end...

Making "large" CP embeds for CP soap

Cool idea! I'd definitely recommend forcing both the moose and surrounding batter through gel phase together so they stick better (but even then, my welded soap falls apart when I use it). I think the bottom layer will need to be pretty firm to support such a heavy embed, so it would be useful...

    Coronavirus

This kind of misinformation gets to me. There is NO good evidence for either ivermectin nor hcq in whatever form. If there was, it would be used. The articles that claim to see improvement with either drug are of poor quality (not because they are done in poor countries, but because there's no...

@earlene so cool that you're a participant in the nurses' health study!!

    Coronavirus

I know we don't agree on many things in this thread, but I wholeheartedly agree with this. Anything that can be done to minimize negative effects of covid-19 should be explored and exploited once proven effective. I'd also be very interested in a link or reference to the Israeli study you...

    Coronavirus

I'm frustrated. I was at a party yesterday with a lot of unvaxxed people, almost nobody was wearing a mask except me and another woman who wasn't vaccinated, very scared, but really wanted to be there for the person throwing the party. I was encouraged to take off my mask "for my own health"...

    Coronavirus

It was about patients in Belgium, but the mechanism is probably the same as in India😉 There was an interview with a man who only survived because they thought to check for a very common type of mold that otherwise wouldn't have made him sick.

    Coronavirus

A while back there was an article in the news about an opportunistic mold infection playing a role in covid-19 morbidity. Don't have much more info on it, but had to think about it when reading this.

    Coronavirus

@Susie there's a test site close to me as well. I got an email that they were looking for participants in phase 3 trials for J&J early this year (jan/feb) but I got my invitation to get vaccinated around the same time (so no risk of placebo) and therefore didn't sign up. @AliOop the vaccine...

    Coronavirus

I'm confused by this statement. The vaccine approval is based on double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled studies with tens of thousands of participants. For example, here's the phase 3 trial publication of the pfizer vaccine: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33301246/ And this is Moderna...

    Coronavirus

I'm following the numbers in Belgium and the Netherlands. Both report significantly more unvaccinated than vaccinated people in the hospitals. In Belgium there's a big difference in vaccinations between the capital area and the rest of the country (61% in the capital, 73% in the small German...
