    So annoyed with myself

I'm looking to start masterbatching my oils soon too for the very same reason as you, @DMack - lots of good tips on this thread! 😁 I just wanted to add that the thing I'm finding useful lately is to use part ice, part water for the lye solution so that the waiting time shortens. I tried with...

SMF October 2021 challenge - butterfly hanger swirl

I feel you, the idea and the blob of colour was there on my soap, but it's a tricky one to achieve with the delicate balance between swirl motion and the batter you can't really see below the surface. On another cut the antennae were showing more, but the butterfly shape not so much! My hanger...

SMF October 2021 challenge - Entry thread (butterfly hanger swirl)

For the challenge I was inspired by moths (rather than butterflies) and especially this moth called Rosy maple moth or Dryocampa rubicunda which has gorgeous colours. I find it sweet, which is a feeling I personally don't usually associate with insects lol. A few pics of the Rosy maple moth...

What soapy thing have you done today?

@Zing I might be missing something really obvious, but can I ask how do you shred soap? I've seen a video where some MP soap was passed through a sieve, but CP would be too hard to do that I guess. I can't wrap my head around it.

SMF October 2021 challenge - butterfly hanger swirl

I have to admit that for me this remains the most mysterious and fun part. The way that my swirl pattern translated into the soap was, somehow, different to my swirl motion, and still resembling my original idea! I'm so curious to see what everyone's swirl patterns and the results. The only...

SMF October 2021 challenge - butterfly hanger swirl

I've just done my first (and only, as I will be out of town for a few weeks) attempt and I tried with 65/35 for the base/colours batter but now reading your comments I think 70/30 would have been better. I had the feeling while pouring the colours that I would have benefitted from more base...

    Oct Soap Challenge

I was also searching the forum to see if the October challenge thread was up yet 😇

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today has been my first long soaping session at 4 hours for my Halloween-themed soap (I'm quite slow anyway but this was a first!). When I was brainstorming ideas for this soap with my partner (who does not make soap and is not aware of soap techniques and complexity), we kind of let the design...

Glass and lye; truth or myth?

Thank you for the recommendation! I ended up buying this exact model and today soaping with it seems a different thing, it's very convenient to use. I just need to remember to stir well so that I'm not just taking the surface temperature.

SMF September 2021 Challenge - Weather Event or Life Event Inspired soap

Congratulations everyone! It was beautiful to read the reason behind each soap.

Glass and lye; truth or myth?

So, I'll be very honest here and confess that I was the same... it makes me feel slightly better knowing that I'm not the only one! I stopped using my glass containers for soaping, but somehow I didn't extend the same risk assessment to my candy glass thermometer... Luckily, said candy...

SMF September 2021 Challenge - Weather Event or Life Event Inspired soap

Thank you earlene for the clarification. This has been a busy month with work and I've ordered my ingredients too late, they haven't arrived yet so I won't be able to finish my soap in time now. Such a pity! 😔 I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

    Christmas soap

This is stunning! I honestly can't say how much I love every cute single detail 🤩 I'm not sure either if I could ever actually use a soap of bar this beautiful.

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

@Vicki C If you are interested in other ideas for snow outside of using salt, there's a video on YouTube where the soaper makes the snow out of white melt and pour soap sifted through a sieve (one with a wider mesh), I found it a brilliant idea and I wonder if you can do this with soap dough...

SMF September 2021 Challenge - Weather Event or Life Event Inspired soap

@earlene, this would be my first soap challenge here on the forum so I'm unsure - can we can join the challenge even on the last day, as long as the entry thread is still open? or is there a deadline to register for the challenge before the entry thread opens?

Another "How many of you ... ?" questions.

I don't bevel my soaps as of now, mainly because I was worried about the left-over soap (and to be honest I don't enjoy the look of shredded confetti soap so much... I might be a minority here), but I do have a soft spot for beveled edges... also, the men in my life have been complaining about...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I joined yesterday too for the first time, and for the same reason! I was curious to see the recipe. So my soapy thing today is actually buying ingredients and brainstorming ideas!
