I just realized that in one of the photos I took of my entry soap, one of the bars is placed incorrectly in the compilation of all bars. It needs to be rotated 90 degrees. *face palm* 🤪

My first attempt went off without a hitch, but the colors were rather dull. My entry was my second attempt

Slow-moving recipe, minimal use of stick blender, fluid batter, decelerating fragrance oil, and poured veeeeery slowly using pitchers with a pour spout. Focused more on pouring from the center of the mold with accents at at the corners.

Loosely filing under "soapy thing": My bff is flying in today for a visit, so I washed the carpets. I included fragrance oil in the water/cleaner receptacle and it smells soooo nice in my house right now.

It helps to have a lot of patience during the pour...and strong shoulders. And also discipline with the stick blender. And knowing your fragrance oils and how they perform. I chose a decelerating fragrance oil and a slow-moving recipe.

Would you say you didn't quite make it to "first base?" 😂

Since this came back to life, I'll chime in and say that the "Walmart shortening, tallow, palm" option in SoapCalc works just fine for the shortening that does not list palm oil. It made for a lovely bar of soap using the following recipe: 35% Walmart GV Shortening 35% olive oil 15% cocoa...

I did exactly that. I ended up using my smaller slab mold and just stopped pouring when I hit an appropriate depth, then poured the remaining batter into individual cavities. A few take-aways: don't rush the pour. Towards the end I did just that and the colors began to muddle, Nice and steady...

What process is everyone using to determine the amount of batter needed for the batch. A full batch in my slab mold requires 3,400g of fats. Thinking I'll cut that down to a third for this design. Does that sound about right? That should bring me to an inch of batter, give or take. Thoughts? I...

I use it at 15% and I LOVE it in soap. My local Smart & Final sells it at a reasonable price in a large container. I do cook with it, so it is always in my pantry.
