I regularly use my slab mold and get very minimal ash. If any at all. I honestly have no idea why I don’t get soda ash. When I do, it’s very faint. Not related to the soda ash, but you can probably omit the heating pad altogether and just put the soap in the Styrofoam box (with the lid on) and leave it at that. That's my process and my soaps gel just fine.
