What natural, easy to find additives have you experimented with?

Thx Kiwi. The beer is on tomorrow's menu. Just a small 250gr oil batch. Luckily/unluckily I live in a small farm community where fresh fruit and veg are always available at very reasonable prices - or in the neighbour's backyard. Unfortunately it also implies difficult access to some finer...

What natural, easy to find additives have you experimented with?

As total water replacement? Does it leave any smell or colour in the finshed soap?

What natural, easy to find additives have you experimented with?

As soon as I can get hold of them, they are going in! Wonder of one of the farmers around here milk their goats? Ah! I forgot about beer! Thx, immediately going on list. Do you boil the beer before to get rid of alcohol?

What natural, easy to find additives have you experimented with?

I have been having a lot of fun adding different things to my soaps and was wondering who else has done some experimenting? I know some of the additions are common to the old soapers, but it is interesting to see the way the same recipe reacts and how the soap ends up? Did some egg and pine tar...

What soapy thing have you done today?

What a night! Started a rebatch of soap scraps at 19h00 when power went on. In slow cooker. By 23h00 when power went of it was still not properly melted. At 1h00, when power went on again, I regrated the semi-solid clumps and started the crockpot again. By 5h00 this morning I gave up, pushed the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Amazingly beautiful! Made 2 x 250g experimental batches. 1 egg and 1 pine tar. The eggsoap went beautifully - although the tallow turned cold when mixing with the egg. Guess I should've taken the egg out of the fridge even earlier. Did mix all to a very thick consistency - hope it was trace and...

    Tallow salt bars

Love the experimenting probably more than making batches of the same soap! :)

    Tallow salt bars

No I haven't. Currently sticking to soap. In South Africa "Boerseep", a traditional Beef Tallow soap is very popular, so I am trying all kinds of twists on it. My normal 100% tallow lathers well, I do add sugar for lather. - think I must try 1 minature bar and see?

    Tallow salt bars

All the info I have found thus far on salt bars as well as soleseife uses coconut oil. Has anybody ever tried using only tallow?

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made bunch of miniature soaps to test different colours and scents. Purified some tallow and then decided to try a new plastic type liner on a small mold before going bigger. Off course I had to add some of the newly tested colours and flavours!

    Gloves

Has anyone tried using "Gloves in a bottle" instead of latex gloves when working with lye? I read a lot of reviews about people using it when painting and using solvents, but was wondering if it would protect against lye? The normal gloves really makes my hands sweat terribly and results in a rash.
