    Coronavirus

I didn't take it that way. I am just tired of the FEAR being poured out on us. That having been said - I am triple compromised as far as my health issues are right now. My breathing is bad enough that I cannot wear a surgical mask. I have a powerful Friend that has told me that I shouldn't be...

    Perfect numbers?

As you may have noticed we tend to find what we each like and settle into a neighborhood with "the numbers". I find that a recipe high in oleic FA tends to dry my skin. They make a soluable bar and that doe not rinse off as easily or completely - FOR ME - as my high lard and low cleansing...

    Coronavirus

I was looking for a good Halloween mask but couldn't find one. I'm still trying to find some pantyhose the will go over my head so I can go out. It's a mask, right? All joking aside, WASH YOUR HANDS. Don't sneeze, cough or just spray on anyone. Don't kiss anyone that you don't know ( good...

    Wild Sourdough

I am realizing just how spoiled I am. I live 4 miles from a nearly completely vegetarian market ( they do sell a little meat VERY little). Flour AND yeast are still available. The 5 LB. bags are not to be found but bulk and 20 pounders are still on the shelves. I can get locally grown rye...

    Finding supplies

Restaurant supply stores ma have the oils you are looking for and their shelve are fairly full right now. Rice bran oil can be used to make "castille type" soap since the fatty acid profile is so close. Of course it would need to be labelled as such. Just my 2 cents.

    A need for levity

And I thought it was soap.... Must be getting bored. I wonder if I can make Lego soap bars?.....

My handmade soap is making my skin feeling dry

Cut the coconut oil at least in half. Coconut oil is very cleansing - meaning it will take the natural oils from your skin and make it dry. I use CO at 10 to 15%.

    Lye on quartz countertop

The tile section of your nearby hardware store should have a sealer suitable for tile. I use a water base sealant because it has a lower voc and I have breathing problems. It also will penetrate the unsealed portion prior to setting and "drying". Drying is in quotes because the stuff actually...

    Lye on quartz countertop

The lye has reacted with the finish on the counter top - not with the quartz. The good news is that is *might* polish out. Try using a wax / polish the will penetrate ( one the requires a curing time). It may leave a "ghost ring" to remember why we wear PPE's and soap in safe areas.

    Lockdown

I'll have to scrounge around the bunker and see what I can find...

Having trouble with vegan palm free recipe

59% "hard" oils could have something to do with the fast movement of the recipe. I agree with the hot process suggestion.

    Confused about chemistry

From an oils / fatty acid chart I have: ___________Luaric Myristic Palmetic Stearic Ricinoleic Oleic Linoleic Linolenic Olive_________0______0_______14 _____3______0______69____12_______1 Sunflower______0______0________3_____4______0______83_____4_______1 Sweet Almond...

    Confused about chemistry

Translating to hillbilly - Each oil has a fatty acid profile. Each profile contains several fatty acids in different quantities. Sodium ( or Potassium) Hydroxide reacts with these fatty acid profiles to make soap ( salts of the fatty acids) in relation to the fatty acid profile(s). Most of us...

    Bit of a boo boo

Florals work great for an hombre soap since they tend to move FAST with the recipes I make. YMMV I can pour a layer, count to 10, FO an pour the next layer etc.

Let's play "What is in Your Freezer"

Freezer 1 - meat and ice cream (mostly). Freezer 2 - strawberries, blue berries, peaches and apples. Jan may have snuck in some veggies. Then we have a pantry for canned goods ( tins). And dry goods. If'n you're hungry come on by.
