Shower Lotion Bar Tests and recipes

I'm really interested in your comparison of the Lush Buffy Bar and our DIY one. I meant to buy one when I was in Lush and got distracted by the soaps.

Thanks to Vicki and everyone who participated, that was a fun one and a good learning experience.

It's happened here now - OO prices up ^

Ugh, I guess shea butter is next since so much of it also comes from W. Africa.

If I lose my business license, can I still sell?

I am not a tax lawyer, so take this for what it's worth. I think your business license would be issued by whatever state/local entities regulate such things, as they are state matters and the IRS has nothing to do with that. What the IRS could do is disallow your work related...

    Salicylate sensitivity

You've certainly come to the right place, a lot of us love lard and tallow, so you'll find lots of advice here on that issue. Great fats that make terrific soap.

    Olive oil

I get my CO from either Costco or a chain called Bargain Outlet (not sure if they are local/regional though). I get my soaping OO from Walmart, it's this one for 10.54 for 51 ounces, about 20.6c/oz. Just bought some a few days ago, price has not gone up (yet)...

Soap recipes intended to become Melt and Pour?

I've also gotten this impression. Especially regarding clarity, I almost only use clear if I'm using melt and pour and I've never seen a DIY one that's as clear as the brand that I like (SFIC). I'm sure there are people who can make it that clear, but I think they are a small minority. Also I...

    Howdy from Michigan

I don't use EO's or soaping software so can't help you there. But the following are three good threads on masterbatching. I learned how to masterbatch from the IrishLass post on the first thread. The second is a good general thread. The third (which is cited within the second), is a write up...

    CI Numbers

@Marie Gale, OMG, I've recommended your book to so many people I'm a little star struck! JJM, in the event you're not familiar with her, Marie is probably the most widely cited US expert on this type of issue, so you can take her advice to the bank :)

March 2024 SMF Challenge - Stone Soaps!

No, they were a little soft when I unmolded in the am after CPOPing so a couple got smudged from handling. I rinsed them to get rid of those before I took pictures, I think some were not fully dry. If I look at them in the light the glitter does show up, but it doesn't in the pictures.

What soapy thing have you done today?

How can this be???? You must have super self-control, I can't seem to stop until I run out of room.

    Soy Wax CP soap recipe

This is a really hard lesson, the key to doing a lot (if not most) designs if you like that kind of thing. I've been soaping for years and I'm still not sure I've mastered it! Good work. I've never used soy wax but from the numbers I would think that recipe would be fine if you're only doing a...

What soapy thing have you done today?

RE Lemon Verbena sticks well. I just checked on a bar that I made about six months ago and it is holding fine. It is not an in-your-face kind of stickiness, but very pleasant, I love the green edge the verbena gives it.

ENTRY THREAD for the March 2024 Challenge - Stone Soaps

I really wanted to try another batch but only managed the one before the entry date raced up. So here it is. I pretty much just followed the process from Lisa/I Dream of Soap's video and did little repeated ITP pours into the mold (which I think is the same as the one CLMP bought!). I...

@CLMP, agree your soaps were awesome. Especially like the ciaglia one.

    Hi there!

I would interject a note of caution here, it can get pretty expensive to make dupe products, especially at the beginning, because you have to buy so much start up stuff (molds, ingredients). And then you get hooked and there is always something new! I am pretty sure that I have spent more on...
