    Breaking down deodorant

I personally prefer around 30% magnesium hydroxide in my deodorant bars. I also prefer Babassu oil because it has antibacterial properties and does not yellow clothes. I also like to use this in my deodorant sticks and found it really helps with odor control even in unscented bars Zinc...

    Body lotion

I agree with DeeAnna and Saponificarian, with the Optiphen, I would never consider it as a singular preservative, and yes lotion making is nothing to take lightly when making. Ironically if you continue having separation problems try upping your liquid to 70% and be careful not to overheat your...

Oily odor in olive oil soaps

Some people cannot use OO soaps and I happen to be one of them. You can make lovely soaps without high super fat it just takes experimenting with different oil combinations and low CO. I will re-clarify, I simply hate OO soaps. With a very long cure, 6 months min 100% Sweet Almond Oil makes a...

    Moving is Happening!!

The first move is finally here. We are taking up a load in the morning. Moving to another state is a lot of work, and we are really set back with no garage to unload in. The fella in the pic is the handyman we hired to help us pack. We did get our new floors in the house last week, but no new...

Oily odor in olive oil soaps

May I suggest lowering your superfat to 2 or 3%, it is better on your plumbing and has less chance of dos. It may also help with your oily smell, and frankly, there is no point in an 8% superfat.

Do I pare down the sharp soap edges?

I would weigh all my soaps individually after beveling write the weight on the label then shrink wrap and stick on the label. I left a line on my labels so I could write in the soap weight. You would be surprised how fast I could do all that. I just had a little hdpe that is basically a hand...

    Latest Update on Cheryl

Yep, I find they all cover each other's backsides well. I ended up with uveitis after cataract surgery over 20 yrs ago, just because I was at my boat and forgot my eyedrops I was to use several times a day. I called the office asking to call me in a prescription and the office girls told me I...

Do I pare down the sharp soap edges?

I beveled every soap I sold and bevel my own soaps because I hate using soaps with sharp edges. Beveling also makes soaps easier to hold onto especially larger cut soaps.

    Salt Bar

You are braver than me, I hate any pink salt in my bars but I am using 100% salt, and any Himalayan I have used has contained clay. Have you ever tried dissolving that salt and see if there is any leftover clay? Maybe their salt is better sifted or something.

    Salt Bar

You can certainly use them sooner but they will become milder and lather longer with a long cure time. I had to use long cure times because I liked to use 100% salt sometimes even more. Also, remember to use x-fine or fine salt and no Himalayan salt. Himalayan tends to have clay in it that will...

    Bug Bite recipe for everyone

Thank you, Melissa, where I am moving there are mosquitos and I am very sensitive to them. I will be unpacking the one box I have left of essential oils so I will definitely try this. Oh, and I am taking up my large potted Aloe plant with me.

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

That is interesting, I made Lemon and Lime as a regular in my stock and never had it go soap on a stick. My Lime was Brazilian lime/Key Lime from NDA, I do not think they have it anymore, and May Chang from either NDA or Sun Pure Botanicals. Sometimes I purchased the Mexican Lime and the Litsea...

Running into problems with batch of CP soap with honey

I pour when I barely get a stable emulsion and all is fine as long as my batter does not overheat. I soap with a 30-33% Lye Concentration depending on which formula I am using. For one of my formulas, I hit it with the SB a couple of seconds separate for my colors, quickly stir in my fragrance...

Running into problems with batch of CP soap with honey

I would guess it overheated and caused the separation. I would soap that at a lower temp myself. I tend to soap as cool as 75º especially when using honey and/or GM, especially if I am using a fragrance I know can heat up. You can actually have more problems with emulsions holding together using...
