    Loofah Oil?

After googling it, it seems like it would be nice in a lotion but its likely too pricey for soap. I did check your website but it wasn't listed

    Preservative Free Soap

Its just a sales pitch. Your average consumer isn't going to know soap doesn't require a preservative so seeing on labeled as preservative free makes it sound "better"

Help with TD in CP soap

I have water soluble TD. Whenever I use it, I mix it up first with hot water so it can rehydrate and the lumps are easier to smash up

    Cedarwood EO--Yuck

I'd use peppermint, it goes well with woody and herbal scents. Maybe it will be enough to cover the cedar. Another option would be patchouli but unless you really love it, it could make it worse

    Trouble shooting liquid soap

I attempted cold process liquid soap today. Technique was basic, dissolve lye in water, add to melted oils. It seemed to be ok at first but whenever I stopped blending, it would separate. I tried for about 45 minutes to get a stable emulsification before I gave up and put it in a crockpot on...

    Trying spider silk

I found her in my laundry room one morning. Stuck her in a jar until I could throw a cage together

Bladderwrack infusion - oil or water?

I'd try a oil infusion first. Fill a pint jar with the dried seaweed and cover with your liquid oil of choice. Seal with a lid and put it someplace warm for a couple weeks. Shake every few day or wheneven you think about it. Strain well before use

    Honey disaster in CP

Could be the honey wasn't quite dissolved all the way in the water, could be it was the milk that scorched. Maybe try a small batch with just honey, no milk or coffee. I'd dissolve the honey in really hot water, add it after it cools and blend the heck out of it before adding the lye

    Confusion regarding MHRA

Keep in mind that soap cleans, it doesn't moisturize in any shape or form. If you don't want soap that is drying, you need a low cleansing number. I like around 11 but my hubby can go much higher so I make him his own recipe.

Spearmint 'tea' as water source for lye solution?

Most green plants turn brown from lye, same with purples and reds. Kelp stays green but will fade to a olive color after a couple months

Spearmint 'tea' as water source for lye solution?

Also, it can turn your soap a tan color since mint goes brown in lye. It won't hurt the soap, just won't add anything besides a not very pleasant color.

Spectrum shortening (100% hydrogenated palm oil) - experiences?

Spectrum works well, many, including myself have used it with good results. Yes, you use the palm oil option in the calculator

What blend of essential oils will smell like the sweet basil in my garden?

I've used basil FO from natures garden. Its still not as basil-y as I'd like but its much better than the EO and it doesn't have any anise notes. It sticks for a long time but does fade to a lighter, nice sweet herbal scent

'Old Reliable' or 'Core' Cold Process Recipes

@Jorah they look great and the sunflower is a good replacement. I like it best of all liquid oils but its expensive and hard to find here

    Confusion regarding MHRA

35% coconut is far from gentle, I can't use near that much, can't imagine how harsh it would be for a baby

    Forest EO blend

I do a 50/50 mix of balsam and peppermint. Its a nice pine scent with a kick
  18. Obsidian

    Forest EO blend

By forest blend do you mean a green plant scent or a damp woody scent? I'd think some patchouli would help add damp dirt smell to the trees

    Fix a cracking-soap recipe

I have one recipe that tends to crack if its not kept on a wire rack so all the water can drain quickly and it can dry evenly. In my case, its a high lard recipe. I really suggest you try a faster draining dish wire caddy. If that doesnt help, you will probably need to add a liquid oil like...

Has anybody used peanut oil for CP soap?

A very mild somewhat sweet soap, not unpleasant. I added a little ground cinnamon for flavor but I think peppermint EO would have been better You need to consider cross contamination from your soaping tools and molds. I've heard that refined peanut oil has the allergens removed but I don't know...
