Need help finding a natural orange colorant

To get a good orange color you are best off to use Paprika (sweet). Infuse it for a long time, make a strong infusion to begin with and leave it to infuse as long as you can. I dont even think of using any of my infusions before 8 - 12 weeks and I consider those young. I much prefer 6 months...

What soapy thing have you done today?

It depends on the way you have prepared the colorant. Some are infusions so they go in with the oils, some are added to hot lye water before it cools to room temp and some are rehydrated and added at trace. It honestly depends on which one you are using and how to get the best out of that...

Boom recommendation for intermediate soap making with all natural colorants

@Paulaenos I would recommend opening your pantry and having a look if you have any sweet paprika (infuse in oil), annatto seeds (infuse in oil), cocoa powder, (rehydrate to a paste with just off the boil hot water), spinach powder (rehydrate to a paste with just off the boil hot water) or any...

    Question about alkanet root powder..

So just a quick comment: Alkanet and Ratanjot are not the same Alkanet inci is Alkanna tinctoria Ratanjot inci is Onosma echioides Gromwell inci is Lithospermum erythrorhizon All three are different plants, all will give a purple and yes Alkanet will be close but as you can see the inci is...

    Breaking down deodorant

I use magnesium hydroxide, silica and zinc ricinoleate and mango butter, plus a wax, no eos for scent and some botanical oils for example oat and cucumber etc! So interesting that there are so many combinations between us and also frustrating until you get it right!

    Breaking down deodorant

The only green in there that they are confessing to is the Lime Oil. If it was dark colored it would give a tinge of green. Your top is not smooth so that makes it look less glass ish. Shave a bit of the top off and hit it with heat to smooth it and see if you like it more. Yours looks like...

    Alkanet root experiment

Oh yes it definitely has faded! Did you keep it in the dark? It looks like it might have been in the light. Also did you get your alkanet from a reputable supplier? I also don't suggest using less than 15% infusion in your recipe for alkanet.

    HDPE Soap Mold stain

I have not had an issue with staining in my HDPE mold and I have had it for about 10 years and bought it from another soaper. I use strong infused oils and no issue at all for me. I don't have a problem removing my soap from the mold either but the soaper that sold me the mold did so for the...

    Alkanet root experiment

Oh yes I prefer Gromwell if I am honest over Alkanet and I really like Ratanjot also. Thank you for reading the article hopefully it helps. For what its worth I do long slow infusions (in the dark) of all my colors. I usually just use the 30g ratio as well and then up or down the amount of...

    Alkanet root experiment

always wait the full 7 days with alkanet so that you can see what the maximum color it gives will be before you go up in strength of infusion/amount used or down. Its a tricky thing and takes time to get to its full morph.

    Alkanet root experiment

So easy to be mesmerized by plants in soap. I know believe me and I completely understand how you felt! You will get dark purple, keep at it but there is a point where it can lather purple and also where it borders on black and well then you lose that purple that is so tempting! Keep going...

    Alkanet root experiment

Hi there, You have blue soap because you poured at a cold temperature. In my experience this should slowly change towards purple. I would suggest taking photos over the next 2 - 3 weeks as the change is quite gradual and its best to look at in photos. Its not easy to get blue so...

    Question about alkanet root powder..

Thank you for linking Sun Pure - I am in Australia but like to know where decent essential oils are. I see its Lavandula angustifolia so I would be surprised if that has caused any issues re heating. Usually that is fine so my best guess would be the extra heat and the wood.
