    Lye with paprika solids

Was the paprika a powder when you infused it? You can reinfuse the paprika as you did before just expect the result to be half the strength of the first one approx. I reuse paprika powder after I have infused it at least once more. If you used a powder and its just a compacted powder in the...

New to coloring bar soap, looking for help

Red is the hardest of all the colors to achieve when using plants only. Are you adverse to using clays? if not that will be an easier way going forward. The rhubarbs will be the best way to get red - any of them - Turkish or Himalyan it wont matter which one you use. The more concentrated...

    Madder root

Gritty will depend on how much madder you used in the soap batter. I rehydrate it with hot water and add it at trace or add it to the lye water whilst lye water is hot and strain it. I have had no issue with the "burst" of color on your skin but you definitely get that with indigo for...

Please tell me about salt bars

I use the salt bar in normal water so any recipe will work. People use coconut oil if they are going to use a soap bar in salt water as it will lather more than other oils ie fisherman the salt content at 25% gives a creamy lather in normal water. Try it with your favorite recipe, I think...

Please tell me about salt bars

I have been making a soleseife bar for many years. You can use any cp recipe you like. Add salt at 25% of the water weight in the lye water, let it dissolve and then add the lye. The heat from the lye will dissolve any left over salt. I cool the lye water to room temp as I soap at room...

Need help finding a natural orange colorant

All plant colorants will fade, they are like flowers in a vase in that respect. Its the compromise for knowing you are using natural colorants. I haven't had my paprika fade to completely white so that is interesting for me to see! Yes both turmeric and paprika will go that fabulous...

    Soap discoloration

I will just tell you that the only people that are bothered by ash are soapers. The general public dont know or care about it. Sometimes we are just too hard on ourselves. I have over the years noticed that for me I have a higher chance of ash occurring when I use Lavender eo. Another thing...

Using herbal tinctures in soap making.

The issue with using tinctures for the healing properties is that in the alcohol they are not subject to the lye monster. Lye is a harsh environment. There is no research to prove that any healing properties are passed along into the soap from herbs (yes I know there has to be some as eo scent...

What soapy thing have you done today?

just regular turmeric powder - nothing special until it hits the lye and then it goes red and all the way through the shades of red, orange and yellow depending on how much you use. Plant Magic - my favorite part.

    Camel hump fat

It was ok in soap - no smell but in other products it was "gamey" in some batches

    Camel hump fat

I have used it here in Australia for a camel company for their soap and you can use it also in body butters and balms including lip balms. It can stink I have to warn you.

What soapy thing have you done today?

you can just add turmeric straight to your batter as well no need to infuse - rehydrate with warm to hot water and add it in at trace. Its very fine and not exfoliating at all. I dont infuse it

Considering a new loaf mold - opinions please?

BBQ liner mat will also work on the bottom and/or sides - just cut to size

Considering a new loaf mold - opinions please?

Are you freezing the soap in the mold before you remove it? Silicone can create a vacuum like effect and you need air to harden the soap. The sides can stick tight and the best way to get air into the sides and bottom is to release them from the soap. Freezing the whole thing makes the soap...

    Sun lotion

Living in Australia I buy the highest rated sunscreen I can find. Here we have a huge issue with skin cancer and I would not even consider anything under UPF50+.

Has anyone used an alcohol intermediary extraction in soap?

it will evaporate over time by itself. This is not a quick method but it is well worth the wait. I dont recommend heat over time for any plant infusion

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yes that is the fun part. Everyone's recipe is different and you will also see color differently to me. Pastels are hard to get in plant colorants because of the fading that will occur over time. Always start 1 - 2 shades darker than you ideally want to allow for the fading part.

Has anyone used an alcohol intermediary extraction in soap?

Benjamin if you can smell it then there is alcohol present so I would give it more time.

Has anyone used an alcohol intermediary extraction in soap?

Yes I do use alcohol to extract color from plants. I have had a lot of fun with soap on a stick and jelly in about 2 minutes as well once the alcohol hits the soap. I evaporate my alcohol component out with heat and also time. It gives the most AMAZING depth of color to the infusion. I...
