    Addicted to Planing my Soaps

My planer arrived today and I have to say it makes a huge difference. Here is a before and after photo of the batch that ashed up really bad on me that was my driving force for buying a planer. I weighed the bars before and after planing. Before they averaged 4.8 to 4.9 oz, planing shaved...

    Homemade buttermilk for soaping

Oh wow, I didn't realize you weren't here in the U.S. Now I know why shipping would be outrageous as well. We are going to have to start a drive to get Buttermilk to you!

    Is brambleberry slow?

Yes they may be slow but their website does tell you up front how they are running on processing orders and I have yet to find better quality fragrance oils. I will gladly wait a couple extra days for better quality. Just have to plan ahead a little bit, something many of us have forgotten in...

    HP Lard Soap

It just occurred to me I said mine was about to come out then mentioned container size. I meant mine was about finished and ready to be molded, It didn't swell too much but did rise up a little on me.

    HP Lard Soap

Funny that you mention this, I have a batch in the crock pot as we speak, just about ready to come out actually. Biggest thing is beware of the size of the batch vs the container you are using to process it in, it does swell a bit!

Where are you at where there is no buttermilk to be found? I need to know because I couldn't live there.....lol. I not only cook with it but drink it as well.

My First TWO Batches Of Soap :D

Those look fabulous for first attempts, just as fabulous as if you had made a thousand batches. My first attempts were nowhere near that impressive for sure!

    Whoops.

what you originally made was a bastile bar . Do some reading on bastile and castile soaps here on the forum. Had you allowed them time to cure you may have been pleasantly surprised.

    Homemade buttermilk for soaping

We must first ask why we want to add buttermilk to our soap, what added properties do we expect to gain from it? When we look at it in that light we get our answer. When we use substitutes for cooking, such as adding lemon to milk, it doesn't change the properties of the milk, people most...

Having the hardest time with ash

I have read where some use a pure grain alcohol such as Everclear and they use a fine mist sprayer and mist the top after pouring in the mold. Pure grain alcohol will be 99% but it is ethyl alcohol as opposed to isopropyl alcohol. Does it make a difference which alcohol? Does one work better...

New website, did it all myself

Paillo, thank you for pointing that out, I couldn't agree more and it was not worded that way intentionally but more of a oversight. I believe I have corrected that concern.

New website, did it all myself

Thanks for the compliments, thoughts and insight, we will be tweaking a few things based off the comments thus far. Obsidian, I love the properties that lard brings to soap. It seems in our modern culture so many go out of their way to try to find alternatives because they don't want to use...

ACK! NDA's new $100 minimum order policy!

They just effectively turned away any new customers. I have never used NDA but let's be honest, most soapers are not big operations and if they have never tried their products they aren't going to order $100 of merchandise to "sample" their quality especially with so many other suppliers online...

New website, did it all myself

Well like most everyone else, it started as a hobby, became a passion and evolved into a business. Well I did some research then took that big step and set up my website. Lot went much easier than I ever imagined. Of course I am still trying to learn tricks with search engine optimization and...

    Addicted to Planing my Soaps

I just ordered one, what are the odds that I read this post just a couple days after having a batch ash worse than I have ever had one ash? Perfect timing! Thanks
