    Anyone use Brambleberry's 40/42 lavender e.o.

I use it and love it. I get the fragrance level I want from my soaps by using 4-5 ml PPO. The scent is exactly what lavender should be and is fabulous as a stand alone fragrance.

    Best Vanilla

I use WSP and BB for nearly all of my supplies when it comes to colors and fragrance/essential oils. I suppose that explains why plastic seemed odd to me.

    Moisturising Organic Recipe

I've been playing with numbers on this myself lately and have come up with this: Coconut oil 25% Palm oil 36% Castor oil 7% Canola oil 7% Olive oil 25%

    Best Vanilla

I'm searching for a vanilla as the last couple I have tried have not given me the results I am looking for. I have never purchased from Scent Works. I was looking at their vanilla as it was mentioned in this thread and one thing I noticed was that it says the Vaniglia de Madagascar is packaged...

Lye Pockets in Only Two Bars?

I don't know why not and to be honest I don't see why you would even need extra oil unless you just wanted to superfat it some more. I would cut the pockets out, they are minimal and won't be missed, so they are completely removed from the equation. Also if you cut it up for rebatch cut it...

Lye Pockets in Only Two Bars?

These were described as weeping pockets. The batch I had also oozed liquid out when I cut through the pocket. As it dries you will also see a discoloration like crystalization around the pockets and of course when you zap test the liquid that oozed out of it there is zero doubt that it has...

    Help oh help!!!

Just out of curiosity I ran the recipe from the label through soapcalc to see how it panned out. With those oils the recipe is at 5.5% superfat and the water was 25% of the oils, lower than I personally use but not an issue so far as I am concerned. Without getting into splitting hairs on...

Lye Pockets in Only Two Bars?

My personal thought is this, it depends upon what you plan to use them for. The batch I had that did this I will not use for my customers. I will keep it for personal use but it simply isn't worth the risk of ruining my reputation or name over a batch of soap. Not only would a pocket such as...

Lye Pockets in Only Two Bars?

I had that exact same thing happen not too long ago with a batch. I had two pockets exactly the same as you have and they were only in two bars. I cut the rest of the batch in thin slices attempting to find more at the expense of the batch but never found any more. The only thing I did...

    Milk soaps

I substitute the milk for my water on a 1:1 ratio. I measure the amount of milk out them pour it in an ice cube tray and freeze it. After frozen make sure to re weigh as you will lose some weight through evaporation and small bits that don't come out of the tray. I add water to compensate for...

A crash course in stick blending

On your first batch, if I read it properly, you added fragrance oils before any blending? If so this throws up a couple red flags. You should blend to a light trace before adding any fragrance oils, essentials oils, colorants or other additives. Second without knowing the fragrance you used...

    Cheesecake soaps

You need to get ahold of the maker of the cheesecake picture you were looking at and send them a picture of your soaps with a note telling them "this is how a cheesecake should look"!

    Coconut Milk & Banana

This was a first for me on a couple different levels. I used Coconut Milk and real bananas in this. It threw me a couple curves during the process but this is what I ended up with. So far it has definitely retained the smell of fresh banana. I also added some vanilla in with it so the...

    Tomato Soap

I came across a place that was talking about Tomato soap. I have to admit I am interested in trying it out, maybe even making some but I first want to try it. Being that it is the middle/end of January and it is in the single digits outside, any hope of finding garden ripened tomatoes to make...

    Favorite wooden log mold design

This is the design that I made for my use. It is a very simple design but very versatile. I drill the 2 holes for the bottom bolts through the sides and bottom then the upper bolts on each end are drilled just through the sides. The end pieces are then cut and can be placed anywhere. I can...

    Lavender Salt Bars

Thanks everyone. And yes they are colored with violet ultramarine. I used a silicone mold from Brambleberry for them. It's a 12 cavity mold with 4oz capacity. Currently these salt bars are at 6.0 oz. As you can see I filled the mold to capacity, scraped them off level and then added the...

    Spinach and Pecan Experiment

Lin, I have Jelly bags that I have purchased from wine supply stores, they come in different sizes and in coarse or fine as well. Here is a link from the place I used to use when I was making a lot of wines, they are fabulous people to deal with an if you have any questions give them a call...

    Lavender Salt Bars

Here's a batch of salt bars I poured this morning. I am fairly happy with how these turned out. They are so much better than my first batch that I attempted to pour in a loaf and then cut. Lavender essential oil added with a very light touch of lavender oxide then topped with pink himalayan salt.
