    Pine tar soap

We make a lot of pine tar, enough that I have my batch size up to just shy of 30lbs at a time. My concern with the recipe would be the 20% pine tar, I would be afraid of this being too soft of a bar with the oils used. My recipe uses all of the oils you are using and the only difference other...

    Help! Lye Misbehaving Badly!

I've never had this happen so I can't offer any advice but I do have a question that maybe can be answered. Is it possible the problem is the lye? What brand lye are you using and are you using flakes, beads etc? Also what temp are you mixing at and what temp is your mixed solution?

    Goat Milk Soap... Colostrum

slipknott, I do not up my lye to compensate for this. If this was a concern for me I would drop my superfat % instead of upping my lye percentage to ensure I did not end up with a lye heavy soap. To increase lye to compensate would be a mere guess at best as different milks seems to have...

    Goat Milk Soap... Colostrum

We make a lot of goats milk soap and have never been able to tell the difference in how milk with colostrum reacts in lye vs milk without colostrum. We get our milk fresh from the farm then pour enough for one batch into a freezer bag, seal it then freeze it. We use quart size bags so enough...

    Essential Depot Customer service problems

We finally got a response from their customer service and they have made the situation right. We had submitted a weight of the still sealed container along with pictures and suggestions on how to pack containers to help prevent leaks as we experienced. They gave us a small refund to cover the...

    packaging rant

Most all of my solids are ordered in buckets or other large containers. Most are 5-6 gallon buckets which when stacked two high are perfect for working out of. I use steel ice cream scoops for the solids such as Coconut Oil, Shea Butter Etc. They are very durable, easy to handle and work...

    Essential Depot Customer service problems

Has anyone else ever had issues in dealing with Essential Depot and if so did you have issues getting in contact with customer service? We have been reluctant to use them for essential oils/fragrance oils for some time but opted to give them another try. We received the package but had some...

    Clean up stray lye crystals?

Also as far as mixing the lye/water and it turning to soda ash. That won't be the problem. I mix batches of lye/water in advance in large batches. If stored properly the solution will be good for a month or better.

    Clean up stray lye crystals?

56 grams (2 oz) of lye to 212 grams (7.6 oz) of water should see considerable change in temperature The biggest problem I see here that really stands out is the recipe. When I enter the numbers into soap calc this recipe is around a 30% superfat, of course I wasn't sure what type of vegetable...

    Buying soap mold?

It has already been told but wood molds are cheap and easy to make. If you don't like lining them with paper then find silicone liners and build the mold to fit them.

    Olive Oil In Bulk

I've never used them for bulk in drums as you are looking for but they have been fantastic in smaller quantities. If I ever get to the point where I buy in bulk they will be the first place I will consider...

Candellila Wax in Lip Balm - Grainy?

I only used Candelilla wax once and never had a problem with it being grainy. What I hated about it was the taste after it has been on my lips for awhile.

Has anyone used this soap cutter?

They don't have their adjustable cutter on their website yet but I was told by phone they are available.

Has anyone used this soap cutter?

I looked at Buds when I ordered my cutter last year. I ended up going with Cumberland Acoustics Multi Cutter. I have used it and it is quite the work horse. Carol is great to work with and they are now offering a cutter that can be adjusted in 1/4" increments which is on my list of things...

    Need help conquering labels

I use online labels.com for my labels and use their templates in my HP Officejet Pro 8600 inkjet printer. While it takes some tweaking it hasn't been too big of a nightmare. They will send you free samples to try as well and it is hard to beat their prices.

Cleaning Up Equipment After Making Soap

I used to use paper towels, and still use some in limited numbers. I have a bunch of old dish towels that I wipe all the excess that I can't get with a spatula. Let the towels sit for a couple days then thrown them in laundry, they have more than enough soap already in them nothing else is...

    Gelling too fast?

I have never tried the pureed pieces but it would be my guess that you will end up with the same color whether you use pureed carrot or juiced carrot.
