    cleansing factor

Ah fantastic. I was wondering about that. Trying to make a mild baby soap and am keeping my cleansing number down to 12-14. I originally made a batch that was at 20 and found it too drying on my baby's skin.

    citric acid

Am in the UK. You dont think over 9.5 is going to be too harsh for a baby? - or can i measure harshness by its 'cleansing' number (i.e. keeping it down to 12-14 on the scale)? Perhaps i should explore assessment via another chemist - who might allow a higher ph. All my soaps are coming out as...

    HP benefits

what are the advantages of CPHP soap making? I'm looking to make a very mild (baby) soap and struggling to get the ph low enough with CP - will HP solve this? Also, can i use the same recipe i've used for CP or do i need to avoid using certain ingredients (currently including castor, coconut...

    coconut oil and ph

I realise that coconut oil plays a large part in the 'cleansing' action of a soap. Does the amount i use affect ph? Also, what is a good (milder?) alternative?

    gelling

ok thats useful thanks. I wonder if its because i'm making such small amounts of soap (to test recipes) e.g. 1 or 2 bars.... What are the benefits (if any) of encouraging my soaps to go through a gel stage?

    making a hard baby bar

I'm struggling to make a bar that is hard enough yet also mild enough. In order to keep the cleansing value low and mild i'm limiting my use of coconut oil to max 18-20% but i'm finding this make my soap too soft. Any advice? I'm also using olive oil, palm oil, avocado oil, castor oil and almond...

    adding aloe vera

i would like to add aloe vera to my soap - how do i do this? Can i substitute some of the water for aloe vera juice...? or is there another way? Also, can you buy cosmetic grade aloe vera - or is there no such thing, and i could just buy some from the local health food store?

    ph

Hi there, am trying to make my soaps as mild as possible but no matter what superfat % i use they are coming out as ph 10. I am using a digital ph reader and have checked it with water - and it seems to be reading ok. What can i do to make my soaps milder? I have even used a 10/11% superfat but...
