    Shampoo bars

I believe that whatever product you put in your hair is going to damage it to some extent. Wind, sunshine, heat, life n general damages hair. When I used synthetic shampoos I used to have to change them frequently as they stopped working the same as they did at the start and I always had to use...

    Shampoo bars

I've been checking out the company that I originally found when looking for an alternative to chemical shampoos that were so irritating. Their shampoo bars are what got me into soap making. All their soaps and shampoos are lye based using CP or HP methods. They are a huge company now having...

    Shampoo bars

I'll let you off ;):D I was just really disappointed as I thought I'd stumbled across another natural option I could make myself :shower:

    Shampoo bars

But there is no such thing as a natural syndet shampoo. Syndet literally means synthetic detergent. It's made from chemicals (disappointingly). Granted it may not have the irritating effect of SLS shampoos which has to be a good thing, but in no way can it be called natural :(

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Update. The bottle is still doing weird things. Not worried any more it's stupidly flimsy. I'll use a better one next time. As for what appeared to be free fat floating in the top..... I added some more water. The free fat appears to have actually been a very fine layer of bubbles trapped due to...

    Shampoo bars

I've been using lye based shampoo bars for at least 5 years now. I found regular shampoo irritated my scalp to the point that I thought I had an infestation :hairpulling: I started with soap from the funky soap shop which I found expensive but worth it not to have the itch. I have long curly...

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Haha Nanette. If you stick with a mixture of oils and not just pure olive oil, I'm pretty sure you won't have a problem. I just like to challenge myself haha. And even though it has thrown up a couple of issues, I used some of the soap to make a dog flea shampoo using neem oil and some other...

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

That's really helpful info. Yes it did take around that long to get to trace but I was expecting that with the pure oo. I did the zap test after I thought it was fully cooked and there was no zap at all and it had cooked to a thick clear jelly so I thought it was finished. Loads of really...

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Yes I'm thinking 2 or 3 and if it happened to you with a full bottle then 2 is likely not the cause here either. Also the ambient temperature has been increasing drastically here over the last few days so if temperature alone were responsible I'd be seeing pressure build as well as drop but it's...

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

That makes sense. I'll try some again soon and follow your tips and hopefully have a less problematic experience. I'll let you know how I get on fixing this soap and if I have any other problems I'll no doubt be back for some more expert advice. Thank you most kindly :D

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Thank you that's interesting and most helpful. I'll try that and look forward to confirmation of the process and curing timing. I was quite surprised to see free fat appear as I used a 0% superfat to avoid that and had cooked it for longer than instructed and there was no zap on testing.

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

This is the recipe I used. I didn't measure the amount of water I added altogether as it was over the course of a day or two. I didn't want to make it too thin by throwing in too much water at once. It was bottled about 2 days after processing.

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Pictures. This is after equalising the pressure once. It was worse the first time around.

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

This would make sense. I thought the process with liquid soap is finished by this point though. Is this a known phenomena?

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Yes I agree it does seem to be some sort of reaction so I am hoping someone can confirm the chemical process going on :)

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

It's about two thirds full so a fair bit of air space.

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

Haha yes I'll post a pic in the morning as it's 2:30 am here in the UK and I don't want to disturb the family

Liquid Castile soap creating a vacuum. How?

This week I made my first liquid soap. I only used pure extra virgin olive oil (later found out extra Virgin is not the best choice if you want a clear soap but that's not important just now). It diluted nicely to a good thick liquid and I put it into a lemonade bottle. It was room temperature...
