Sorry for the long delay in responding, life has been crazy. No, I haven't used dark patchouli but I have used regular and I love it. It's one of my favorite scents not just in soap. I frequently burn incense and it's my go to stick.

I ran that through Soapmakingfriend and it looks pretty good with lard. I got similar numbers, mine were ever so slightly better on the longevity and hardness but when I compare that to the cost and the availability, using the lard in place of the cocoa butter is really attractive. I think...

Is there a rule of thumb about how much you should use in a recipe? I'm new to formulating recipes and the one I'm working on now has 20%, is that too much? Is there a max I shouldn't exceed? I've read that it can make the soap too hard. Is that the primary concern? Thank you in advance!

It's only been ten days but my tea tree patchouli soap smells really nice. It has mellowed from being an overwhelming pine-sol scent to a fragrant woodsy, slightly medicinal fragrance. It'll be interesting to see what the next four weeks bring.

Do you use more eo/fo to account for the fact that the scent will be diluted by the chemical process or just accept that the scent is lessened by this method? Or is it an issue for you?

I changed directions without announcing it, I'm sorry! I realized that I didn't want a weak lemon so I went through my oils and found patchouli. On a lark I googled tea tree and patchouli and lo and behold, it's a thing. I smelled them together and it's pretty intriguing.
