Help! Dog just ate Shea butter!

I fully agree amd! Going to a forum for advice for pet care is really not the place to go. I didn't even have a forum for advice when I started the coconut oil with my dogs years ago, I only had my vet to guide me. Over the years, I can't say how many emergency calls have been placed to the vet...

Help! Dog just ate Shea butter!

They say all chocolate is poisonous to dogs, however, I have had two friends whose dogs ate chocolate on a regular basis and never became ill. I still don't trust that with my three! Being that cocoa butter is made from the cocoa bean, which is what chocolate is also derived from, I would/do...

For those who make at home (businesses included) - label question

I used Almond oil in some of my recipes, but not all. I have thoroughly washed, sanitised, and cleaned everything from when I made those soaps a couple of months ago, but I realized that I would need a warning on all labels following. Now I do put "May contain trace elements of tree nut oils...

    Recipe with cocoa butter

I do not use Almond oil at all due to allergens that so many people seem to suffer from it nowadays. Last night I did a recipe with 12% undeodorized cocoa butter and even before adding any fragrance, I was unable to really smell the cocoa. Let us know how your recipe turns out for you.

    Lotion bars, that simple?

amd, how many of us do this?, probably a ton! I not only hoard my own soaps and lotions, but I buy from others and hoard theirs! My husband was laughing at me when we packed to move and made a wise crack that between what I have kept of what I have made and what I have bought from others, I...

    Lotion bars, that simple?

No, I would NEVER sell as sunscreen. My husband uses it as sunscreen since he burns so easily and has had no burning since he started using it. I started making it specifically for him because we spent so much time at the coast and I didn't want him to continue to use the commercial sunscreens...

    Lotion bars, that simple?

I add 2 Tbsp non-nano Zinc Oxide to mine to make sunscreen bars. The Zinc Oxide is not added until after the butters and oils are melted and removed from the heat and then it is stirred in with the fragrance making sure to get it's all well incorporated. I then pour it all into individual...

    Mice much

Mice absolutely hate the smell of moth balls, so I use those as a deterrent. I have all my soaps, waxes, and made candles in thick plastic bins with tight snapping lids, then I have moth balls placed in the corners of the alcove where the bins are placed in the workroom. So far, I have not had...

    Your favorite exfoliating add ins

I have a coffee soap that has coffee grounds and oatmeal in it. I use this in the kitchen as this tends to be where we wash our hands after working outside or in the garage. Both my husband and I love it and my mother was extremely surprised by how "smooth" it felt without being too abrasive...

    Sodium Lactate

I honestly couldn't say as I don't use SL in my CP or HP. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge about using it in HP will respond. I didn't even pay attention to the "after cooking" or I would have caught that it was HP.

    Sodium Lactate

Don't you mean like MP? SL is typically used to help the soap harden, not for color stabilization or opaqueness.

    Wine soap

You are not able to add wine to a MP based soap as it is just what it states, Melt and Pour. However, there are fragrance oils that are wine scented that are compatible in MP bases along with colorants. By using the wine scented FO and a colorant that would mimic the color of the wine in a...

Homemade cold process soap and plumbing

The police department in the city I moved from did this as well. What they didn't put on the flyer was that you were to bring the medication in the prescription bottle or package and that either your name or the prescription number MUST be visible along with what the mediation is and the dosage...

Homemade cold process soap and plumbing

That might actually work with some of them. The compound pastes and liquids won't burn, but maybe crushing the pills and then burning them would. I will have to suggest that to the hubby since he loves playing with his charcoal grill.

Suggestions for Having Labels Printed & Design Help?

I did have one person do up a set of logos on Fiverr for me, but when we decided to change from "Candles and Gifts" and just go with "MKLonestar Handcrafted", I needed it redone. I had found the first person hard to work with (guess that's what you get for $5), so I we chose to pay a little more...

Homemade cold process soap and plumbing

I asked our local pharmacy and they don't take them here. I will have to take them over to a pharmacy 20 miles away, so I will take them with me when I go on a Sam's run or have other reasons to go to the city.

    HAHA Soapmaking is "weird"

I was going to make some unscented as well, but I guess I won't do that. My husband loves my scented soaps, as do my friends. I keep thinking that I will get my website up and going (I bought a URL a year ago) and make YouTube videos, so I can start selling, but it's feeling more like a dream...

Homemade cold process soap and plumbing

I have wasted a TON of money on medication/vitamins that my body could not handle. When we moved, my husband literally packed a 16x16x12 box FULL of medicine/vitamins that have been prescribed or doctor recommended that are not compatible with my body make up. Some are 12 years old (maybe even...

Suggestions for Having Labels Printed & Design Help?

I went to Fiverr.com and found a graphic artist that would design my logo for me. For $15 I got the logo, stationary logo, web logo, social media logo, and business card logo. He did 5 designs for me with unlimited changes. All I had to do was write a description of what I was wanting and he...

Questions on my recipe for CP

We just moved (8 weeks ago) from Arlington to Portland, which is just across the bay from Corpus Christi. I got tired of the DFW rat race and traffic, so wanted to be away from it and near the beach. I am keeping all my doctors at UTSW though, so will have to still deal with the traffic every...
