80 year young soap & candle maker

Thank you all for your kind words of welcome. Yes Carebear, it is nice to know that others are interested enough in learning these age old crafts, and it's also nice to be able to be the person to start them on their way into them, although I would never consider myself to be any sort of...

    Cottonseed or rice bran oil???

I never use cottonseed oil but I have used ricebran oil a few times and I've never had a problem with it in one of my standard type recipes, but perhaps someone else may wish to say differently.

What are you doing over Easter ?

I don't really know if it helps or not with possible seizing because I've always done the same thing with my EOs and FOs and never had a soap sieze up in my 60 years of CP soapmaking, but I always add my fragrances to twice as much veggie oil that I hold back from the recipe before putting it...

Not finding what I need locally

I don't know if this will help you in the future Fullmoon but I've been making CP soap for over 60 years and have never used anything else than rainwater just as it falls from the sky. I have a small tank joined onto my house downpipe to collect it these days but I know a few people that catch...

Great book for newbie CP soapmakers

I don't know of the author you mention Soapbuddy, but that doesn't really mean much anyway because I don't read a lot of books on soap or candle making. I was only looking to find a very easy to follow soapmaking book as a gift for a friend when I found Kerri Newbury's book on Amazon and found...

    need a good scale...

Because I make such big batches of soap at a time I bought myself a second hand digital scale that can from a store that closed down a few years ago now. It can handle up to 15kilograms, but if you only wanted a small digital scale there are very good ones for sale in stores like Big W, Target...

    12 Bar Cutter (Project)

I always make my CP soap in very large wooden molds so need to cut them to size quickly and easily afterward but my husband sorted that problem out for me a long time ago by making me a cutter that cuts 30 bars at the one time (The total length of my mold) It uses the steel guitar strings...

80 year young soap & candle maker

Hello everyone I'm new to this online community group sort of thing, but not so new to CP soap and candle making. I first started into CP soap and candle making at about 6 years of age by learning from my mum, but I didn't do very much of either craft until after I got married, so I...

A couple question for Aussie soapers

Freezer paper is very similar to greaseproof paper Drangonkaz. I use wooden loaf molds all the time and I either use greaseproof paper or what we in Australia call "Lamb side bags" which are big plasic bags that hold a complete side of lamb, and I buy them very cheaply from a butcher's supply...
