Do shampoo bars need a vinegar rinse?

@AliOop THANK YOU, I was not thinking about copyright at all. 😅 Thank you for the citric acid rinse advice as well. We too have sensitive sniffers and dislike vinegar rinse got that very reason.

Do shampoo bars need a vinegar rinse?

In my head I was thinking about a non emulsified sugar scrub I was gifted and how crazy greasy it was vs an emulsified sugar scrub that I make that is still moisturizing but doesn’t leave a greasy mess. I readily admit I know zip about solid shampoo bars. Thank You @DeeAnna for the valuable...

Do shampoo bars need a vinegar rinse?

I was not thinking of a lye based shampoo bar. We are particular about our hair, especially my DD and would certainly want a gentle product. A while ago I read old threads about lye based soap shampoo bars and how harsh they could be. I’ll go grab & post shampoo bar recipe from my book. I...

Do shampoo bars need a vinegar rinse?

My DD would like for me to make her shampoo. I’d really rather not dive into liquid shampoo and start off making her a simple shampoo bar. I’ve seen recipes in books that I own and would even be willing to pay for a forever used recipe. My question. When choosing to use a shampoo bar, is a...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I’m back to experimenting with soap recipes. It’s been a minute. This round I’m tweaking palm free, veggie recipes using Shea & GW415. Waiting to test seems to take forever so maybe that will help summer go by slower. 😉 I’ve made two batches one with cocoa and one without. I just cut the cocoa...

    Another batch of ZNSC complete

Update: Two years later these bars still smell amazing, are still slightly tacky, definitely not no slime but since I refuse to gift one, we have plenty left. I never did figure out if it was the FO or I messed up in lye calc or oil calc.

Recommend oil temp for Shea in CP soap?

I made the second batch today and my oils were at 115F & lye solution @ 110F. No stick blending required and I poured at medium trace in no time flat.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my first ever batch of CP soap batch using Shea butter. Love summer break and the time it allows me for hobbies. Also made some lip balm. 😃

    Comments, critiques

@1st glance too much CO for my skin. CO% ranges from 15-23% in my typical CP soap recipes.

Recommend oil temp for Shea in CP soap?

I think tomorrow I’ll combine at 115-120F. Planned another test batch replacing the RBO with HO sunflower oil in a new no palm recipe.

Recommend oil temp for Shea in CP soap?

Thank you for the reply. 🥰 I made my small batch. I thoroughly heated oils and was going to cool to 90-100 but hubby in a hurry to go set up a rain barrel, and happened to read your reply, so I combined @ 110F. Everything, went lovely. I really don’t think I needed to SB at all, but I gave it a...

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

I tend to vary the CO anywhere from 15-23% depending on the user. My normal to dry skin can tolerate 23% CO, but for a friend with eczema I typically go with recommendation by @AliOop. 65%Lard; 15%Neem; 15%CO; 5% castor. I substitute Rice Bran Oil for the Neem oil for friend(s) with just...

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

My most lovely lard soap recipe that I make for my family with DRY skin was created with recommendations/advice/words of wisdom from @AliOop and It’s a hard bar of soap. High Lard%/ Low CO%/RBO or Neem @ 15%/Castor oil @ 5% plus Sodium Citrate @1.5% oil PPO. I have never ventured into tallow.

Recommend oil temp for Shea in CP soap?

@AliOop or any shea butter in CP soap user. I’m making a batch of soap today using Shea & GW415 soy. Should I keep my soap temps low? I read Shea can accelerate trace and with castor & soy already at the party, I don’t want to have the batter seize. Since 1st batch with Shea, the batch will be...

What soapy thing have you done today?

That fragrance is a fave & accelerates for me as well. I add it to the warm oils before adding the lye solution to combat acceleration.

    Suggestions for oils

That is GR8 news! I’m going to try the recipe. I have plenty of GW415 on hand.

    Suggestions for oils

@ScentimentallyYours Currently I use GW415 soy wax in a CP soap recipe. I noticed your vegan soap SMF recipe linked above uses fully hydrogenated wax in it’s calculations. I cannot find near me. Would you mind if I ask where you purchase your soy wax from?
