    Clove Oil Fragrance

I have to admit I'm having a blast trying different things since I began just several weeks ago. So far, I haven't had any truly "bad" experience with the first few batches I've made. I really, really appreciate all the feedback, advice and help you all have offered up and, I have to admit, the...

Need to Replace the Beef Tallow

Thanks, Angela. It's interesting you mention Soy Wax because your comment is about the third time I've seen something about it in just the last day or two. I'm going to play around with my recipe replacing the beef tallow with soy wax and see what I come up with. And, thank you for the...

Need to Replace the Beef Tallow

Very cool! I think that gives me lots of options. Personally, I like the tallow, but I would like an all plant-based option, although I'm not going to kill myself trying to get there. I've got some babassu oil and I made a batch with that AND the tallow last week. VERY soft; going to take...

Need to Replace the Beef Tallow

Thanks, Todd. I'll run a couple of tests with Babassu instead of tallow. Perhaps I should be more concerned about hardness but for now, that's not an issue. I'll give a try with the Safflower and canola as well. I've not used either as well as rice bran, but those are all welcome...

Need to Replace the Beef Tallow

This is the 3rd batch I've made in the last month and things are turning out pretty well. I tried a small piece of the first batch I made which was a 100% beef tallow soap with peppermint oil and french green clay added. Yeah, it's a bit early, but, of course, I was anxious. It's really nice...

Thank you so much! I will do that search, read thoroughly and I appreciate the work of caution.

    Can I premix lye water

I've tried to find previous posts on this but can't up empty. I was wondering if I can premix my lye water a day or two ahead of when I need it and, if so, how I re-heat it if that's even necessary. I'm thinking it would save time when I'm ready to get my oils and fat together.

    No Scent Remains after Use

Thank you for your feedback and advice! I'm very new to all of this so I'll be trying a lot of things. Being a "sixties kinda guy" I really am eager to try patchouli, so I'm glad to hear it may leave a bit of a scent. I actually don't mind just smelling "clean"! Thank you, everyone!

    No Scent Remains after Use

Very new Soap maker here. I've had what appears to be excellent success making tallow-based soap using a very basic recipe and very basic peppermint essential oil. Everything set up well, however, while the soap lathers well, cleans well, rinses well and smells great while being used (the...
