    Vanilla Stabilizer

I just found out that there was a product called vanilla stabilizer which stops the vanilla in fragrance oils from discoloring the soap and turning it brown. I didn't know about this. Has anyone used this and what are your thoughts?

Troubleshooting: cutting soap with herbs in it

I've turned mine upside down or on it's side to cut it, this way the herbs don't drag through. You have to be kind of delicate though so all the herbs don't fall off or get too smashed :)

Red Mica Color coming off on hands

Yeah, I definitely think I used too much. I put about a teaspoon and a half in less than one pound. Oops.

Red Mica Color coming off on hands

Hi all. I made a cold process soap using a red mica colorant to make a swirl. I just cut it tonight and it's coming off on my hands and making prints on the white part of the soap as well. Bummer. Anyone have this experience with a mica before?

To Gel or Not to Gel

I tried preventing gel for the first time this week. Put my batch in the refrigerator making sure it was cool even before putting it in. I agree - it wasn't ready to come out of the mold 24 hours later, but I do like the creamy texture so far. I posted a photo in the photo gallery called "Last...

    Last night's soap

Thanks Soapy. I'll post some cut photos tonight. The vanilla is making it change colors a bit, which I expected. We'll see how the color ends up.

    Big mistake

Well, I made a really silly mistake and I should have known better. I was making a 4-5 lb batch of cold process soap with cucumber puree. I had measured out all my oils and cucumber etc and then when i went to measure the lye I realized I was 1 oz short of the recipe. I went ahead and mixed...
