    scent to go with color

I'm not sure which scents you have, but I use a Siberian Fir Needle EO from New Directions Aromatics that I absolutely love. One of my favorite blends with it is 60% Siberian Fir Needle, 30% Rosemary, and 10% Spearmint, which I think would complement hunter green mica nicely.

    yesterdays soap

Those are gorgeous, both color and design. The photo of the top swirl is also very calming and almost dreamlike!

Powdered herbals in syndet poo and conditioner bars?

I make liquid syndet shampoo and conditioner and include fruit extract powder from New Directions Aromatics. For the banana and guava ones I have, the recommended usage is no more than 0.5% (unless making a tincture). They don't specify if this is for a liquid or solid product, but if I were...

    People soap on dogs

(This is merely an observational post...) I have no idea whether or not real soap is okay for dogs, as I'm not a veterinarian, but we got a dog almost a year ago and since then I've spent a great deal of time in and out of pet stores and online looking at pet products (seriously, an absurd...

    Soap dishes....

I really like the seahorse! It's also such a pretty green. Almost 3 years ago I made a "minimalist wooden soap dish," which was fairly easy to make and I love the design. I also like how you can easily customize it to different sizes. It's held up surprisingly really well, no warping or...

Turning Lotion Bars Into Deodorant and a Question About Shea Butter

At the risk of sounding like a parrot, as this has already been suggested, I'm going to encourage you to read the Defunk da Pits thread, if you haven't already. There is a lot of great information there. One way my deodorant recipe is different from yours (from post #32) is I use 33% magnesium...

Why is Panthenol powder so expensive now?

I've purchased it from Ingredients to Die For, and just checked to see what their prices were. Not only have they gone up quite a bit, but they also posted a message stating, "Alert: Worldwide shortage continues and is ongoing. Quantities will be limited to one item. We apologize for the...

    the future

An exciting new chapter! My husband and I lived in Chicago for 20 years before deciding to migrate north and trade the city life for rural life (I miss the city terribly, but country living has its own advantages). It doesn't sound as though you are going quite as "country" as we did, but I...

    Natural Green color

I've had success with French green clay. In fact, your post inspired me to look at a soap I made almost exactly 3 years ago where I used it, and it is still green as ever. The batch I made just prior to that batch used wheatgrass powder. And while the wheatgrass held its green for quite a...

    cedarwood

The cedarwood orange soap I make (and love the smell of) is: 58% Orange 5-fold 25% Cedarwood (Virginian) 17% Dark Patchouli A more earthy-smelling blend is: 60% Bergamot 25% Cedarwood (Virginian) 15% Dark Patchouli Another blend that I created and has been a huge hit is: 30% Dark Patchouli...

    Essential oils that stick

I generally like it, and find sometimes all it takes is 5-15% to "citrus up" a blend. Some blends I've used it as high as 45%, but in that scenario I make sure the other EOs are heavy-hitters so that the litsea doesn't completely take over and has some scent competition. If the litsea is...

    Essential oils that stick

Here are a few more that I find stick pretty well (at least 6 months, some longer): - Geranium - Ylang Ylang - Litsea Cubeba - Sweet Basil - Cedarwood (I use Virginian) - Spearmint - Fir Needle (Siberian) - Eucalyptus Lemon (LOVE this one and it sticks like nothing else. Not a fan of the smell...

Making lots of small (2-6oz) batches to test & compare recipes

I've never used them, but maybe silicone cupcake/muffin liners would work as individual molds? They could also be put into the oven if you were experimenting with CPOP and I think they are fairly inexpensive and reusable.

    Recent soaps

They are all super lovely but I am quite taken by the Vanilla Bean one. It's funny, I practice all kinds of swirls and designs, some complicated and involved, yet often my eye is drawn to simple elegance like the Vanilla Bean. You are inspiring me to practice refinement! It also looks like...

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

Hi soapmaker, sorry for the confusion! I was actually asking hungryhawaiian, but appreciate your input, as well. I have also admired your slab mold! So intricate with functionality and you really left no detail out.

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

Your craftsmanship is fantastic - nicely done! A couple questions for you: 1) were you able to find HDPE locally (like at a hardware store?), and did it come in one big sheet that you cut down to size?, and 2) do you have to line the HDPE mold? Ok, that was 3 questions!

    Increasing longevity

I agree that I would try dropping the castor oil out of the recipe. It's something I've stopped using entirely, and feel my bars are more durable and last a little longer in the shower (I do add 5% ppo sugar to every batch, though, for added oomph of bubbles).

    Guilty Pleasures?

I didn't think you'd be sorry. (and I'm not, either) Yesterday I was at the store procuring Dump Cake ingredients when I got a message on my phone that TeresaGG had replied to this post (#57 above). All it did was reaffirm that what I was doing was the right thing. lol
