Finally an article about what impacts trace that I understand!

Nice article. I knew all of those things, but it was nice to review them all in a clear and well organized format.

Question about Coconut, Castor, and The Bubble Factory

Additional glycerin might help, too - but be aware it makes your bars take longer to harden.

    new hanger swirl

Thanks. I noticed that video link not long after I posted. I think even I could manage that. Guess I have something to try this week.

    new hanger swirl

Wow, that's beautiful. How do you get the colors to stay over on one side before swirling? Do you use dividers? Tilt the mold?

Those would be fun to put in people's stockings as a joke gift.

The soaps look great! I'm curious how you made the custom molds. Would you be willing to share? Or share a link, if you used someone else' tutorial?

SMF Soapmaking Challenge November: Drop and Skewer

    1. Kchaystack - I need a new idea for a video... 2. doriettefarm - I'm in, ordered a 1lb loaf mold and it arrives tomorrow! 3. Traderbren- I'm always in for a reason to make soap. 4. Snappyllama - Delicate and Wispy ?!?! I'm more of a plop-and-hope-for-the-best swirler... this is going to be...

    Morphing Ultramarine Blue

Not particularly yellow, just a bit yellowish. I'm not super upset about it because I will advertise them as Christmas-style.

    Castor oil toxic???

Good heavens. Not just arsenic, but belladonna, strychnine, turpentine? I guess the treatment was to poison the body just enough to kick it into "eject everything!" mode. Clearly people in the Edwardian era were way more worried about constipation than I am.

    Morphing Ultramarine Blue

I have WSP's Cobalt Blue Ultramarine Powder. I've used it a few times, in both HP and CP soap. Until now, it's been totally reliable, always producing a nice blue in line with the amount that I used. This weekend I created a set of TARDIS soaps. I scented them with a mixture of almond...

    Mixing Colorants into FO/EO??

The only reason I can think that it would be a bad idea is if you have an FO/EO that accelerates trace. Then you would have to race the clock to get your colors smoothly mixed. Also, depending on how many colors you're using, it might not be enough.

Sourcing Colorants and Clay Additives from Clay/Pottery Supply House

In addition to the safety concerns I'd worry about texture. Are pigments for glazing as small and polished as those intended for cosmetics? Or might they feel unpleasant on the skin? That kind of thing. Things like TiO2 or iron oxide are probably chemically identical, but the physical...

"I will PAY you to teach me!"

I haven't yet taught anyone to make soap, but my oldest does seem interested. She helped me make a batch of shaving soap the other week and had a lot of fun. So maybe I'll let me teach her over winter break or something.
