The only reason I can think that it would be a bad idea is if you have an FO/EO that accelerates trace. Then you would have to race the clock to get your colors smoothly mixed. Also, depending on how many colors you're using, it might not be enough.

In addition to the safety concerns I'd worry about texture. Are pigments for glazing as small and polished as those intended for cosmetics? Or might they feel unpleasant on the skin? That kind of thing. Things like TiO2 or iron oxide are probably chemically identical, but the physical...

I haven't yet taught anyone to make soap, but my oldest does seem interested. She helped me make a batch of shaving soap the other week and had a lot of fun. So maybe I'll let me teach her over winter break or something.
