Best place for "building block" FOs?

I use a few blended FOs on their own, but I also really like creating my own scents out of simple oils. Some of my favorite one- or two-note FOs for blending come from Save On Scents. I have a few from Wholesale Supplies Plus, but their oils that are named as though they are single note are...

    Bakewell Tart/Almond

I have a customer request for a soap scent based on an English dessert called a Bakewell tart. Unfortunately, I don't know what those smell like, beyond a written description. I know that the pastry includes almonds and is sweet. So I ask you, particularly any of you who have eaten...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Last night I cut some hot process bath soap bars in two new scents: https://instagram.com/p/3aIn8xikKb

    Watermelon Soap, Watermelon Look

Yeah, he's thrilled. Not so much about the cure time, though. :) Yes, seedless was what I was going for. I had thought I would maybe lay some lines of black in as I was filling the mold, but decided to try that later. I'm still pretty inexperienced with colorants and such.

    Watermelon Soap, Watermelon Look

Since I picked up a watermelon fragrance oil and used it in shaving soap, my 11 year old has been asking me to make bath soap with it. My standard bath soap is lard, olive oil and coconut in decreasing order of weight. I also add some glycerin for moisture and a bit of sodium lactate. I...

    Art of Shaving Sandalwood..

According to their website, they use Mysore sandalwood EO. Don't look up prices if you have a heart condition.

Trying Lard on soap. Starting from scratch

I haven't rendered any lard myself, but the lard I get from Soaper's Choice makes for a lovely bath soap along with some olive and coconut.

    2015 Srew-Ups

So your problem wasn't that the soap stuck to the mold, but that the silicon mat you used for texture stuck inside the mold? Would it possibly work better just to roll the fresh, soft log of soap over the mat afterward instead? Eric

    Thanks, I'll check that out.

    Any Rose EO Suggestions?

Rats. I was hopeful because of things like this, from http://www.edenbotanicals.com/products/essential-oils-pure-therapeutic-grade/absolutes.html Looks like Absolutes just aren't that viable for small batch soapers.

My first shaving soap is a success!

Nuh uh! I'm a hapless victim of John from LA Shaving Soap Co.

    Any Rose EO Suggestions?

This relates to something I've been trying to figure out without spending a boatload. Are absolutes much more concentrated than EOs? Would a 10% rose oil like this one work for scenting soap? Or would I have to use 10x as much?

My first shaving soap is a success!

I really liked the Brazilian Nut Coffee FO from Save On Scents. Nice, smooth coffee flavor with some nuttiness for interest.

My first shaving soap is a success!

Hmm. Very interesting. That would certainly make it easier to do little test batches. My current plan was to do a 1lb batch and divide it after the cook and test several scents at once.

My first shaving soap is a success!

So do you heat up a crock pot full of water, then, and use it like a double boiler?

My first shaving soap is a success!

That's what I was thinking, too. Particularly for sample purposes. I was wondering if it might be possible to just work EO into it without melting it again, like mixing Play Doh colors.
