    Don't laugh! My first soap...

Thanks Dcornett and Lildlege1! I made my first real CP soap from a recipe and boy do I love it! It's sooooo creamy and smooth and leathery! I posted the pic here: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=38847&page=2 The soap doesn't look that pretty but it is the best soap I ever tried...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Thanks again, I'll do the freezer/fridge thing next time.

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Thanks Saswede! I'm still trying to figure out why some people want gelling. In my opinion, when the soap is lighter in color, it appears classier, or should I say more elegant. Darker soap looks more rustic and countrysidish, I think. Maybe it just depends on people's tastes and what they want...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Thanks everyone for your comments! Eyeroll, you're right about the gelling, I think. I now remember one more thing I forget to mention yesterday. When I poured the soap into the mold, I didn't cover it with anything like towels. Just let is sit on the table as uncovered. This is probably the...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

I finally made my first soap. I made it past weekend, and I used the recipe that I've listed on the first page of this thread. I only increased coconut oil by 5% and decreased the olive oil by 5%, and then ran the recipe through the lye calculator. It's been a few days already and what makes...

    Don't laugh! My first soap...

Thanks again, ladies! Our kitchen is rather small, and the garage is full of boxes as we plan to move some time in the near future. So, only our tiny kitchen is available. When I make my CP soap, I'll mix the lye and water outside. Just to not inhale all the fumes. I just realized that I don't...

    Don't laugh! My first soap...

Thanks Soapbysonja! The melt and pour soap is really easy. This one took just a few minutes to make.

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Thanks Judymoody for the tips and for the recipe. I have to try it too, it does sound like an easy one. Do you think argan oil would work good as superfat? Or maybe shea mixed with argan? I have a small bottle of argan oil and I always mix a few drops with hair conditioner, it makes my hair...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Jaccart, thanks for the link, I'll definitely look at it. I think I'll make two different soaps at the same time: one will be simple, and the other one a bit more "loaded". So, when the soap is ready to use, I can compare both at the same time and see the difference. I'll start with the easy...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

TVivian, my goodness, what a pity! Thanks for pointing that out! I'm glad I didn't try that mold yet. What a disappointment. I'll keep the mold for the M&P if I ever make one, as I certainly don't want the plastic to warp. I also have a PVC tube and will use it instead. Eventually, I'll...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Thanks, sistrum. I'm glad you think my recipe is worth trying. I'm also going to try a simple one I mentioned in a post above. That way I can see the difference between a simple soap and the "loaded" one. I'll try both calculators and see what they come up with. I like the simplicity of the BB...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm happy to find so much support here! Kazmi, I actually want to make two different batches at the same time. One being a simple soap with the very basic ingredients (canola, coconut and olive oils, the recipe is taken from here...

My first recipe. Does it look right?

Yesterday I couldn't resist the temptation to use my 50% off coupon for Michael's store and got myself a nice "Heavy Duty Loaf Mold" for soap by ArtMinds. It was the only soap mold they carry there. It doesn't need to be lined, and I can take it apart. It's an odd size though: 9 x 2 1/2 x 3 3/4...

    License to buy lye???

I looked on eBay too, but right after I already ordered it. It just arrived today, yay! Will experiment soon.

    License to buy lye???

That's a great tip, Savonierre! I never thought about the yellow pages route. I'm sure there are some chemical sellers in the Dallas area, it's a big place. Hopefully, they sell to the public. And I could save on shipping too!

    License to buy lye???

Thanks for the link, Soapsydaisy. It's good to know all the alternatives out there.

    Don't laugh! My first soap...

Thanks again, ladies! It's great to have such a wonderful support here. Bann51, the foam is white. I got them at Michael's store, they're specifically made for soap making. They're liquid and in tiny bottles. I'm nowhere ready to use pigment powders yet, so I'll start with liquid color and...

    Don't laugh! My first soap...

Thanks for the tip, Marilyna! I'll try that first and then see how it goes. I read somewhere about dropping the pipe on a concrete floor to release the soap, but I'm skeptical about this method. Not that I worry about the concrete, but what if the pipe or - worse - the soap cracks?!

    Don't laugh! My first soap...

Thanks again, everyone! :) I'm glad my soap didn't scare anyone. I can almost see those legs on the "bugs", haha! This week Michael's has a 50% off coupon, I got one with my last week's purchase. And I can print out another one from their website, if I needed more things. So I'm going to go...
