Does anyone want to help experiment with vegan 'lard' soap?

I am in Canada, but the soaps I have been making fit your profile and it would be fun to trade! I am not currently soaping but some of the soaps I have are 80% lard, 20% CO with 5% superfat (I went with the default setting). I may have one that is a little lower sf due to slight over weight of...

    de-funk de pits

Well this is a long thread and I haven't read it all but I want to add something. I have always been pretty sweaty and quickly start to smell stinky if I don't use something on my pits. I got a tip from a fb group and decided to try it- it is very simple and has been working really well for me...

    Scenting CP soap without EOs?

Poplar buds infused in oil work pretty well, not a strong scent but nice. I was disappointed with my balsam fir experiment- infused fresh branches in oil and used a strong tea of needles to make the lye solution. It smelled like... nothing much. I do CP, the best scent was poplar bud oil with...

my first goat's milk, honey, oatmeal batch

You're welcome! I think it looks like frosting on a cake :p

my first goat's milk, honey, oatmeal batch

I'm guessing the white layer is just an ungelled outer 'rind', as it doesn't really look like soda ash. Did it heat up after pouring?

    Phycocyanin as a colorant?

Anyone have any experience using phycocyanin as a colorant? It is the part of the spirulina that gives it it's blue tone. On sale at $10.50 per 14g. How many grams of spirulina would typically be used for this purpose? o_O

    Charcoal & Lavender

@Hennyfer - did you gel yours? I'm guessing no? No, these did not gel.

    Blueberry powder for color

Might be worth a try- my guess is it'll turn out more purple than blue though.

    Blueberry powder for color

Had a quick look at the recipe, it is colored with some kind of dye. Oh well! You would think that blueberries could make a good colorant, since they stain like crazy.

    Charcoal & Lavender

That's funny! I couldn't stop sniffing every soap as I cut it and now sniffing constantly as I go by it :p It is so refreshing I find.

    Charcoal & Lavender

Here's my little shortie bars! Love the tops on yours. I keep wanting to texture my tops but my high-lard recipe takes forever to trace. I did these with lemongrass and tea tree which is sticking so far (cross fingers).

    Charcoal & Lavender

That is a lovely color! May I post a pic for comparison? I just made my first charcoal soap and cut it yesterday- I used 1.5tsp PPO, the color isn't as rich (also didn't gel so may be a factor). The lather is seems pretty white, maybe a hint of grey to it.

    February Challenge- Soap Stones

Hi everyone! Although I am far too new here and don't really have the supplies to attempt something like this, I was very taken by these rainbow obsidian images I came across and thought maybe they would inspire someone for this challenge :)

    Let's talk about lard, baby

I have been doing around 20% CO, 80% lard- my partner does butchering for some local farmers and we rendered the fat from a very large pig this fall. The fat is pretty clean smelling, even the totally unscented bars smell very neutral. I'll need some time to determine if that will change. I was...

    Size of bars

Good question! Mine are also cut at 1", 2.5" long and weigh around 3.6-ish oz. I like the bar size though it seems smaller than many others I see. I thought 3-4 dollars at the farmer's market would be fine to charge for them considering the local stores sell higher-end handmade bars for 6-8 bucks.

    Pine needle syrup?

I'd love to know how it turns out if you decide to try it! I attempted something with balsam fir- infused my oil with the small branches and needles and also used a strong infusion as my lye water. The resulting soap really has no smell of balsam that I can detect, and I didn't feel it was worth...
