    Ostrich Oil Co-Op

And maybe give those of us time getting the oil to come up with great test recipes to use it! Not much out on the web other than a few mentions using as little as 5% to achieve the benifits, to just the soapcalc. So confident I can get it saponified, but not so much that I will be using it in...

When to unmold and cut castile?

The recipe I used was. Olive Oil 100% (53 oz) Lye 6.7 oz Water 6.9 oz 5% Superfat I have found that at 130 days cure time it is extremely mild. It took a long time to trace but it was almost too hard to use the wire cutter to cut them after 24 hours. I have actually used it as a tooth soap...

When to unmold and cut castile?

I made my Castile about 6 months ago. Nothing but olive oil and lye water. No EO, FO or color. I used a fairly heavy water discount based upon what I had read. It took forever to reach trace. I fact I burned out my cheap stick blender trying. However, once it reached trace and I poured it into...

    Making chamomile infused soap

I made a very strong tea of Chamomile and mint and used that as my water to mix with lye. Be warned, when you add the lye to the tea it will stink not in a good way either. The soap turned out great, but you have to hold your nose with the lye water.

    Body Butters

I had pretty good results using 3 ounces each of Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, and Coconut oil, 1.5 ounces each of Almond Oil, and Avocado Oil. I also added 3 tablespoons of Tapioca Maltodextrin during the whipping process. I melted all of the oils and mixed them together, then let it harder...

Pine Tar, Neem Oil and Lard

I used .5 ounces each of Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Spearmint, Pine, and Anise E.O. The batch made 15, 4.5 ounce bars.

Pine Tar, Neem Oil and Lard

I made my first Pine Tar soap last night. I used the same methods that Soaping101 used in the videos. I used a mixture of Pine Tar, Neem Oil. I knew the soap would trace fast and boy it did. Now I am just hoping the Pine Tar and Neem scents mellow and the EO's will become more predominant. Here...

    My "all-in-one" mold

I thought about the silicon baking sheets. What has held me off is the concern the silicon might absorb colors/scents from the soap. When I first started making soap I used a silicon spatula for stirring the soap. I found it retained the scents from the FO and EO. I only use it when making soaps...

    My "all-in-one" mold

Love what you did with the mold. I made my wooden molds so three of the sides fold down and use a liner. Normally, I can lift the loaf directly out of the mold without lowering the sides. I have used parchment paper as well as butcher/freezer paper and made my wooden molds to exactly be the...

    Wooden mold DIY suggestions please

I cut a strip of parchment paper slightly wider than the ends. Then cut that into to pieces, each slightly wider then the ends but deep enough to fold over the top, down the sides and lap into the mold a inch or so. Then I trim the width with scissors so it fits snuggly. Then i use a full size...

    Wooden mold DIY suggestions please

My wooden mold is 3.38" x 2.63" deep x 15". It is designed to be exactly the width of the parchment paper so it is easy to line. That makes it just slightly more than 15". I used the paper as a guide. I make a 54 oz oil recipe with 15 oz water. I use a 1" wire cutter and get 15 bars with a...
