    Wooden Mixing Spoon

LOL I jusyt saw the post of the video and laughed. I am not that bad lol. But you could use fallen trees or reclaimed wood ;) Walmart used new wood and well it was not an endangered wood and its sustainable with less factory soot from making it but anyhoo.... lol oh wow only 3 uses! Today...

lol I will try to not be reincarnated into a Rat that lives in Cal. ha ha! But seriously though I do think Cal is great about all being on the up and up about Cancer and listing warnings on things. I assume its overwhelming and a big joke for people that see it daily. I think it would get old...

Essential oil frustration (what are we buying?)

Do any of you know of any testing/studies done on soaps that contain EO to determine if their medicinal values are still present in the finished soap? Even with hand milled soaps the EO would evaporate over time correct? While they may not be altered in anyway by heat- still though considering...

    Essential Depot Lye Sale Question

Thank you for explaining that to me I was not aware of any of that. Motivation to keep on making soap and never let any lye sit too long ;-).

    curcumin powder

Have you ever tried Emu oil on your Eczema? I tried it on my son when he was little and just because I had it and used it to moisture his dry patches of Eczema and I was amazed at how quick and well it cleared up. He went through so many prescriptions ointments and creams and they never did...

    Tallow recipe?

I agree and think the same way about how Tallow would sound more pleasing on a label than Lard for sure.

    Wooden Mixing Spoon

I am just in the buying supplies/accumulation stage currently. I bought a nice thick wooden spoon with a flattened edge at Walmart for a few cents shy of $3. It is very thick and well made though so hopefully it last ;) It never occurred to me about the splintered duh! I was racking my brain...

I was using some sarcastic humor when I said they are sneaking it in. My oldest son is actually Autistic. Sorry I am also a hippie at heart...and quite the tree hugger so take it with a grain of salt I guess.

    Essential Depot Lye Sale Question

Does Lye expire? Or was your bottle just all clumped up or something? I never had lye in bulk so I never had any sit around so I guess I might not know if it was to go bad yikes!!! How do you know it needs discarded? :Kitten Love:

    Activated charcoal.

Ah I have been wondering how you all got those adorable thin lines in your soaps. I really like the look it gives to a simplistic bar- its the perfect touch I think. I can only envision the horror my first attempt may be lol. I would be so tempted to blow on it too! Glad you mentioned not to!!!

    Wooden Mixing Spoon

Why do some people say you should not ever use a wooden mixing spoon when making HP or CP soap (or is it just one of them)? I would much rather heat up wood then overheat plastic which could possibly leach toxins into my soap. Is there a solid reason behind the no wood spoon rule? :???:

    Does size matter?

Why not post a picture of your packaging too so we can see it. Maybe someone can suggest another way to make what you have all work perfectly? Another set of eyes never hurts. Who said you have to change it all...maybe what you have will be killer but you just need a few tweaks or maybe its...

    Essential Depot Lye Sale Question

I was wondering if they always offer free shipping on the select lye food grade bundles or is that a sale thing I should jump on? I had a build it yourself website years ago when I made candles and it could be set up that way where it appears you are having a sale but its just a marketing...

    Tallow recipe?

Thank you for the mention of using Rice Bran Oil. I was delighted to find out it is very similar in make up to that of Olive Oil and very inexpensive too! So I guess there is really nothing else better than Coconut Oil for the cleaning aspect? I can not seem to come across anything else to...

BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) & BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) Two closely related chemicals, BHA and BHT are added to foods containing fats and oils. They also are a cariogenic! I would not put that on my skin or eat anything with that used in it ever  Sorry to have to be the...

    Would you happen to know?

That is exactly what your oven step makes me think of...when I was little we never would throw out the last slivers of soap from the bar...we had to keep them. My mom had a bucket that they accumulated in and once she had a full bucket she would grate them up and them wet the gratings up and...
