How to tell if 100% Coconut Oil has Saponified

It is pretty fantastic especially when we're camping at a National Park - they have no electricity LOL. I have a kitchenaid, etc all in storage (5 years so far, hope they work when I take them out LOL) No room here for all my gadgets :( I even have a crank-operated food processor LOL

How to tell if 100% Coconut Oil has Saponified

Thank you for all info! I don't think we have hard water. The soap works a lot better now that I'm putting the soda back in fresh. I'll update when I use the new soap. I have a lot of chemical allergies, so I'm excited about this! Here is my new dishwashing soap :) If you want to grate a lot...

How to tell if 100% Coconut Oil has Saponified

Had to finish making failed sourdough into crackers LOL very time consuming, so I just starting grating the first bar - grates easily :) I am using this for powdered laundry soap. Thank you so much @AliOop - you are wonderful! Funny digression #1 - because I knew absolutely NOTHING about soap...

How to tell if 100% Coconut Oil has Saponified

yeah, well, that WAS the plan LOL Thanks for such a quick answer :) Sorry for not being clear with my question. What I want to know is how can I tell if it did not emulsify completely. I don't want pockets of oil in my laundry soap. Is that even a thing? Should I be extra careful and rebatch...

How to tell if 100% Coconut Oil has Saponified

Update: the soap is very nice & warm (even though the room is still 65F) so hoping it is saponified.

How to tell if 100% Coconut Oil has Saponified

Question: what are the symptoms that show soap has saponified? or not saponified? - as you read this - realize I KNOW IT WAS STUPID LOL - but I got up early & it was on my list of things to do today Situation: I live full time in a 19' travel trailer. I have access to a basically unheated...

    Single-Use Soaps

Absolutely! I have very severe chemical allergies - main reason I got into soaping. Now I have unscented 100% organic coconut oil shampoo and my skin/hair are so much nicer!

    Single-Use Soaps

I love your idea! The shape is good too. How did you fill those little molds? I'm thinking ziploc bag would work? I've been using shampoo bars for 3 years on shoulder-length gray hair and it's wonderful, so don't know why they say it's a problem. My hair is beautiful, has a lot less hair loss...

    Soaping or Dirty Hair

Thank you for the clarification! As a total soapy newb, I really appreciate it. I raise rabbits & do sourdough and one of the first things I tell everyone who takes a rabbit or sourdough starter is DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET - and soaping seems to be the same way, so hearing it...

    Soleseife curing

If you shouldn't use pink salt in a salt bar where it is undissolved, why can you use it in a soleseif bar where it is dissolved making contaminants more accessible to affect the chemical reactions necessary? This doesn't make any sense to me. I know you said, don't use the residue on the...

    Soaping or Dirty Hair

Darn, I wanted to use the pink salt LOL. I saw one recipe where they dissolved the salt before adding the lye. That's what I was thinking about doing. Thanks for this! I have figured out how to use the calculator, but need to learn all the info presented. Could this soap be done hot process so...

    Soaping or Dirty Hair

Can you shoot me a link to a good salt bar recipe? I've been wanting to try that! (I have a long list of trys, I'm a very trying person) I keep thinking I can just load up one bar with everything I want in it LOL (Thus the charcoal/clay/aloe/veg bar LOL)

    Soaping or Dirty Hair

Thanks for the 'oven' idea. I live in a 19' travel trailer and don't have an oven with a light or anything like that. I had wrapped one of the BB sheets around & around the soap mold, so it was about 3 layers thick with no air, it got pretty hot, I think. What about vinegar rinse? I saw the...

    I'm not that bad, really.

What a great post! OMG the 'art' ... seeing someone turning their obsession into something majorly awful is reassuring.

Why does my hot process soap look slimy and yucky like this?

Ancillary note - is the flax seed rancid? If oil goes off, I have read you can 'wash' it and it is fine afterward. Anyone have any experience with this? I mean as long as we are talking science LOL

    Soaping or Dirty Hair

Pretty sure it was because it got too hot. I wrapped it in a thick insulation from butcher box LOL. That had worked really well with the oatmeal soap but not so well with this. It also cracked a little on top. But I took it out and it's fine it's a little sticky but it will cure out I think...

Master's Brush Soap & Preservative ... looking for copycat recipe??

I have a container of Master's Brush Soap & Preservative that does a great job on all brushes, oil, acrylic, etc. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea of a recipe to create my own copycat version? I'm very new to soaping so don't have a lot of knowledge of ingredients. I would prefer if it had...

    Soaping or Dirty Hair

Hi All! I joined the forum to reply to an answer that I found quite creative from @NaturalSoapGirl who, it turns out hasn't been seen in over 15 years LOL I just started making soap because I was buying shampoo bars from a woman at the local farmer's market. She moved, her prices went up and...

My first recipe, feedback is welcomed

HI, I am a newbie as well, so I'm interested in the answers you get. But my real interest is in the beef you raise. I'm up near Fort Worth and would love to know more, I'm willing to make the drive for grass fed natural beef! Right now we buy from butcher box, but would love to find something...
