    Rebatch or not

Yes, I want to try that…. I’m at a crossroads and am thinking about trying to get rid of my larger tanks…. I think the gm soaps need to be made in smaller loaves. The only way I can justify the tanks is if I can come up with a good base recipe… the search goes on! Thank you for all your help!

    Loaf oily

I’m curious as to how this all turned out for you? I have same issue right now. I got it out of mold, very oily and hot spots…. I don’t think mine is “saveable”. I should have mixed longer. Looking like I have pockets of lye.

    Rebatch or not

I never had these issues with my 5 lb loaves and using 100% gm. It’s all been with these 16 lb loaves. In regards, to adding gm directly to the oils, what temp do you soap at? Do you think large batches of gm is just too much too go wrong? How big of a gm loaf have you had success with?

    Rebatch or not

I was afraid of that… I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for the info! But, what really makes me frustrated is why? I strained, used soap calc and still…. Makes me want to cry…

    Rebatch or not

That’s what I thought, too! I strain it directly from the lye/water tank, so I know it was clear… I do add the frozen goats milk all at once in to the lye water. I had it at a medium trace when I poured. I “licked” the spots and got zapped, but I just made it yesterday, so… ??? Some are… but...

    Rebatch or not

Quick background… ran recipe thru soap maker 3. Using 50/50 lye and water and rest of liquid is goats milk. Traditional oils (olive, coconut, palm and castor). Looks like lye pockets… I want to shred and cook in the crock pot… thots? I am sure it’s not lye heavy but something went wrong when...

    Chunky lye and milk solution

Plus I’m making pretty large amounts. 16lb loaves… it’s a lot of sifting and my arms get tired…

    Chunky lye and milk solution

That’s kind of where I am… if extra fat chunks in my soap is the worst part?! I guess I won’t worry about it. Thank you so much for your thots!!!

    Chunky lye and milk solution

    Won’t go thru the mesh

    Chunky lye and milk solution

I try to strain the milk/lye solution but just end up pouring it in because it is just so thick it would go thru the mesh…. I guess that’s a good thing…

    Chunky lye and milk solution

What temps are you adding the milk to the oil and what temp do you soap? And, is the goat’s milk thawed completely?

    Transporting soap

I ended up buying this off Amazon. It is well ventilated so I’m hoping I won’t have to unpack between each market. Thank you for all the ideas! They really helped me narrow down what I wanted to get!

    Chunky lye and milk solution

So, I have been using a 50/50 lye solution (room temp) and adding my frozen goat’s milk in cube form. The goat’s milk is fresh and Nigerian dwarf so pretty high fat content. My lye solution is chunky and even though it looks like it blends in when I add to my oils (oil temp 89 and lye...

    Transporting soap

Any ingenious ideas about how to transport soap to and from several farmers markets weekly. I’ve been doing it by putting in totes and layering with tissue paper. But, if you know of some trays or other idea I’m all ears…. Probably taking between 50-75 bars

    Seizing and tracing too soon

Tried the iced goats milk and adding it to the 50/50 lye solution and cooling to room temp. Worked wonderfully!!! Thank you!!!

    Seizing and tracing too soon

Thank you! i made another batch today and let everything settle to room temp ( lye/ water solution 75 degrees, oils 89 and froze the goats milk, then let it melt in the lye water). Hand mixed the fragrance oil in by hand and it worked!!! Going to take the Shea butter out of the recipe, to...

    Seizing and tracing too soon

What is AJV? I have been adding the fresh goats milk to my oils when they are at 100 degrees (to help my oils cool to 90 degrees), then my 50/50 lye which is usually at room temp. I have been putting my FO at same time. I never thot about the fresh milk and the sugars reacting with the lye at...
