What soapy thing have you done today?

My second show this season got rained out halfway through. The first show was meh due to intense road construction (narrowed to one road, alternating one way) and 3 events the same day at the same location (dog show, road race). I'm hoping third time is the charm! Absolutely gorgeous! My...

What soapy thing have you done today?

This sounds really doable for me. My current method is to weigh out all my oils into a large crockpot. Each large crockpot can hold 4kg of oils, which makes 4 loaves of soap. I then weigh out 1kg of oils for each batch and measure the lye and FOs/Mica separately for each loaf. I have two large...

    New to liquid soap

I'm a little confused by some of the measurement's in Alaiyna B's beginner soap recipe. She says that the recipe is for 1% SF, but when I plug her exact measurements in to SoapMakingFriend, I only get that amount of lye at a 5% SF. I also get 12.82oz of liquid at 3:1 water:lye ratio, assuming...

Right? That's how I felt. Except don't make the mistake that I did and refrigerate it. :nonono:🤦‍♀️

SMF May 2022 Challenge - Infinity Swirl

Just wanted to point out a typo in the title of this post. It's showing up as the May 2002 challenge. I was wondering why so many people were commenting on a 20 year old thread. Silly me!

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

My formula already had a decent amount of grapeseed oil in it, and as grapeseed has a short shelf-life, I didn't want it to be too much of the formula. Came up with something I like and so far my testers like it, as well! :)

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I'm working on reformulating my beard oil and super frustrated. had a great recipe that tested well, but it was hempseed oil based. My insurance won't cover it. Anyone have a good recommendation for an insurance company that does cover hempseed oil?

    Modified Tapioca Starch

I'm curious in which scenarios Natrasorb is worth it, versus which uses you can get away with modified Tapioca Starch? The main reason for my curiosity is that I'm cheap, and I already have a 5lb bag of tapioca starch from my bulk organic supplier. I'm happy to order some Natrasorb for where I...

Issue with body wash - runny!

I don't have a suggestion for your problem, but I do have a question. I use the same body wash base. What do you find is the advantage of adding additional CAPB to the base?

What soapy thing have you done today?

A bit off-topic, but what is your method for master batching oils and lye? I'm finally at the point where I would like to upgrade from my set of crockpots full of oil.

    water

I'm also in Colorado. Since I'm on well water, I've definitely been wondering about using that for my soaps - my main hesitation is that I know our water is high in calcium. I've considered getting an at-home water distiller (almost bought one a few years ago for my dad's CPAP machine)...

    Safe Containers for Master-Batching Lye

Thank you all very much for the detailed responses! This was super helpful. Previously I have always fresh-mixed my lye solution, so I have been trying master batching as a way to increase my efficiency. As with any new technique, there was some user error. I didn't have any issues pouring...

Xylitol (rather than Sorbitol) in soapmaking (for bubbles) - NOT tooth soapmaking

Well dang, I'm not even the OP and this comment sold me. Make sure you get your commission from the Sorbitol Commission or whoever, @AliOop.

How to get Palm-free & Vegan Conditioning Bubbles? - Please Critique

Oh I guarantee it's ridiculous. I was going to call the insurance company and ask more about it. However, after re-reading the insurance documents it's pretty clear that they're explicitly excluding any and all hemp-derived products. Little ol' me isn't going to change that, so I might as well...

How to get Palm-free & Vegan Conditioning Bubbles? - Please Critique

Yep, this is pretty much exactly where I'm at. I think I'm mainly annoyed about having to change my recipe AGAIN because I was super happy with where my hempseed formulation had ended up. But I'm risk-averse enough to not want to do anything that could lose me my insurance coverage. At least...

How to get Palm-free & Vegan Conditioning Bubbles? - Please Critique

This is usually my experience as well! Although I normally soap at a hotter temperature so my soaps gel naturally. I cooled down this one since it was moving so quickly. This could be it, although I had castor oil at 10% in my previous (hemp seed oil) iteration as well and didn't have this...

How to get Palm-free & Vegan Conditioning Bubbles? - Please Critique

Ugh. I THOUGHT I had figured out my fast trace issues with the new formulation sans Hemp Oil. Blended less and soaped a bit cooler (lye at 92-95F and oils at 101-105F) and was able to get some designs in, though my batter was still pretty thick and I ended up with air pockets in a couple of...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

The jar + scoop work out to about half the total cost. For my price point and target market I think they're worth it - zero waste is gaining a lot of traction in my area so plastic would be a no-go.

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

@AliOop I kind of started with these and put my own spin on it: humblebeeandme.com/lavender-oat-foaming-bath-salts the hippy homemaker.com/diy-foaming-bedtime-bath-salts I used SCI instead of SLSA because that's what I have. I did include the baking soda and citric acid. Also added sea salts...
