Hi Chris! Welcome to your new addiction!! I'm fascinated by your making knives- they are so cool! And pen turning as well - I used to make hand bound leather journals, then got into cleaning products, and am now soaping up a storm for Christmas gifts- the soaping world is such a "slippery"...

I use witch hazel as well, and add in very small amounts, to avoid any reaction.. I am curious to see cocoa butter used - I've never thought of that (total newbie at making bath fizzies)!

I finally got to take a photo of the red wine soap I made as family Christmas gifts- I'm calling it "Que Syrah Syrah"

I'm laying in bed, and hubby is making coffee.. going to whip up some soap paste, cp laundry soap, and maybe some wine soap for the holidays... and I also need to make dryer balls, for a craft fair coming up in 2 weeks

What does your husband do, and whereabouts are you? We just moved to the Cariboo in BC, and that fluffy white stuff is on it's way soon!!

Thank you, @deanna - I appreciate your response! I'm newish to the forum, and get a bit confused with threads- I once started a thread that was moved, because it was similar.. and thought adding my comment on preservatives would fit here, due to the o/p mentioning preservatives.. but I see it...

I've been wanting to learn how to make lotions, and am wondering if anyone can recommend a good book (or a few) to read? Also, as I would prefer to stay away from parabens, I'm wondering if anyone can comment on the efficacy of Optiphen Plus in lotions, or recommend a different preservative?

What about rosemary and mint, or a citrus base? Those are great in the kitchen!
