What soap has surprised you the most?

I have @Zany_in_CO ‘s coffee kitchen soap at my sink and I use it anytime I need to rid my hands of food smells. It works great for onions and even the dreaded Worcestershire sauce that seems to soak through my hands to the bone 😆 Thanks Zany! This reminds me of a Demetri Martin joke, he says...

    Same recipe/soap is softer

@lenarenee Thanks for your insights. Steric spots didn’t even cross my mind. I’ve only been making about one batch of soap a month, so I’ve been changing multiple variables with each batch. It’s causing a little confusion and cognitive dissonance 😆 I’d prefer to be as methodical as you and...

    Same recipe/soap is softer

Thanks @Marsi It sounds like finding one “boogy man” cause probably won’t work in this situation 😆 Soaping is very complex. Back to the drawing board… @earlene Yes, it is my grocery store recipe ☺️ I poured half the batch unscented and half the with EOs. Both turned out wonderful with the only...

    Same recipe/soap is softer

@Peachy Clean Soap I’ve never blended with mangosteen 🤔 Now you’ve peaked my curiosity… @ResolvableOwl No, I didn’t create that gradient on purpose. That batch wasn’t brought to full trace and I got worried that may have been a mistake when I saw the gradient. I zap tested the top, middle and...

    Same recipe/soap is softer

@violets2217 I store my lye in the container it came in. It’s Roebic 100% lye. I keep it high in a dark, well ventilated room without plumbing above it. I don’t believe I’m having hygroscopic issues because it pours evenly with the sound of millions of tiny grains of sand. I love that sound...

    Same recipe/soap is softer

Thank you all!! @AliOop I’m relieved to hear your larger batches tend to take a while longer to harden. @earlene @amd @Tara_H I just checked my recipes and I used a 37% lye concentration for both. I’ve been using lye percentage for a few months now per the lovely advice I’ve gotten from you...

    Same recipe/soap is softer

Hey soap friends! As a beginner I’ve been making 1lb batches of new recipes. I liked my previous recipe so much that I decided to go into the lye calculator and adjust the recipe to make a 4lb batch. I’m using 45% lard and the first batch made a very hard bar of soap, which I like. 3 weeks ago I...

    Grocery store soap challenge

Gosh, I really laid in hard!! 😆 I made it VERY clear that I wanted to try your soap and I even implied a guilt trip if you didn’t want to share 🤣 No apologies!!! 😉 Seriously though, THANK YOU Tara ☺️ Your beautiful soap will be much appreciated.

    Grocery store soap challenge

@saddigilmore That is a BEAUTIFUL bar of soap! I love the stamp and your attention to details 🤩 @ResolvableOwl 😆 I probably could’ve spread it on bread if I unmolded it just 30 minutes sooner. I should’ve waited a little longer 😬 I got some flaky-ness while cutting. I call it “rustic” 😉

I used the grocery soap recipe without the paprika. 4lbs. I’m really digging the sunflower/canola for soft oils 😊

    Grocery store soap challenge

Being that my grocery soap is my best soap yet, I decided to make 4 pounds 😆 I used a cardboard box modified with a pocket knife and minimal math. I’m expecting 18 - 3 by 3in bars. I actually brought this recipe to trace. I’m guilty of of bringing my soap to “inverted trace” aka the emulation...

    Grocery store soap challenge

I’m planning to use a pringles container as a mold today. It seems to be lined with a metal foil and metal bottom. I figure it could be problematic with the lye. I have freezer paper to line the sides... any suggestions about the bottom?

Feedback on my first facial soap recipe...

@The_Phoenix Since I started incorporating lard into my recipes it’s become the backbone in my calculator. I haven’t developed a recipe idea that I truly liked (in the calc, in theory) that didn’t have between 45 and 60% lard @Zany_in_CO got me down the “Lardinator” path and I haven’t looked...

Grocery Store Soap Challenge Photo Thread

Random comment about “resisting.” My girlfriend told me today “You know, sometimes I look at your soap and I just want to take a bite out of it” 😆🤣 I suppose I take that as a compliment 🤷‍♂️
