    Adding salt to soap batter

I just made my first batch of soap containing aloe (used 200x dried aloe from Lotioncrafters reconstituted) fine sea salt and a basic coconut nut oil, olive oil and palm with some shea and caster. I mixed Kalyan clay and fragrance and added to oils by hand. The batter got to med thick trace with...

    Deconstructing manufactured soap

I was inspired by another post regarding deconstructing a manufactured soap. The ingredients are - (Olive, Sustainable Palm, Coconut), Shea Butter, Natural Fragrance, Alaskan Glacier Mineral Clay, Lichen Moss, Indigo Powder, Sea Salt. My questions are about Sea Salt and Lichen Moss. If the...

How big of a mistake did I make?

I normally put 5% castor oil in all the recipes that I’ve been playing with. This time I forgot to add it what will happen to the soap without the 5% castor oil? Should I rebate it?

Goat Milk Soap - Freeze or not to freeze

    Gelling in peanuts 😜

2nd attempt at forcing gel phase. I put my soap, with its cover, in a plastic box full of those styrofoam peanuts and let it there until the next day. I don’t think it’s particularly shinny but I could cut, which is a plus. I don’t like the “swirl”. Looks like black and white camo. 😕 I’m using...

Is what I’m seeing just cosmetic? Or something serious

I’ve posted this precut picture before. And the conclusion was soda ash. The additional photos are of the cut bars. I used a single wire cheese slicer and I’m thinking what I’m seeing are drag marks? I’m pretty happy with the swirl. Thin trace and a chop stick 😏

What is this? Looks like mold or frost

Similar recipies ( the uncut loaf has less butter and more oil) similar results. What is causing frosting?

    First Ever Soaps!!!!

Hi all!! First post about my first soaps! The one on the left is my own recipe (see attached )which I forced gelled in the oven (made a mistake with this and left in the oven for 20 minutes before turning off the heat). It crumbled when I tried to cut it. Kind of like when you cut into...
