    Deconstructing manufactured soap

What you say makes total sense. Thank you!! Can I assume you add kelp at a similar rate as another additives-1/2-1 teas per pound of oils?

    Deconstructing manufactured soap

I was inspired by another post regarding deconstructing a manufactured soap. The ingredients are - (Olive, Sustainable Palm, Coconut), Shea Butter, Natural Fragrance, Alaskan Glacier Mineral Clay, Lichen Moss, Indigo Powder, Sea Salt. My questions are about Sea Salt and Lichen Moss. If the...

How big of a mistake did I make?

Here's the recipe. I just left the castor oil out when adding my liquid oils :-( Did the zap test and didn't get zapped :-). I forced gelled it (170 degree oven overnight. Left the light on for the first two hours) and it was a little soft so now it's just sitting out.

How big of a mistake did I make?

I normally put 5% castor oil in all the recipes that I’ve been playing with. This time I forgot to add it what will happen to the soap without the 5% castor oil? Should I rebate it?

Goat Milk Soap - Freeze or not to freeze

Ahhhh!!! And yes!! My first foray into soaping was melt and pour version containing donkeys milk. I love it!! You can by the milk or get it in powdered form via Amazon.

Goat Milk Soap - Freeze or not to freeze

I was thinking about experimenting with powdered donkeys milk. Are you using 100% milk or the split milk method?

    Honey and goat milk soap

I cut them and it looks like they didn’t go all the way through gel phase. And the fragrance I used turned it brown. But why the darker outside ring?

Goat Milk Soap - Freeze or not to freeze

New maker here reading and absorbing a lot of information especially from YouTube. I have seen two different makers make goat milk soap, two different ways. One by freezing the milk and one by adding milk directly to the oils. I'm assuming either way works because I've seen the finished product...

    First attempt with lard

I think you’re right about that. Doing some more reading, the milk proteins start to become soap and that’s what the white specks are 😏

    First attempt with lard

Good to know! Thanks @KiwiMoose! I wonder why this happens? Do you process your own "milk" or by something prepared?

    First attempt with lard

First attempt at lard soap and oat milk soap. The oak milk I made myself. Recipe is below. I like the way it came out but not sure if the spots are the detritus from the oat milk or something more serious 🧐 I made a version without lard and have similar outcomes.

    Honey and goat milk soap

Thank you!! The soap is still soft enough so I could smooth out the cracks 😏 And also realized the honey color is probably from the sent I used 🤦🏽‍♀️ QQ- how long did it take before you were able to cut? I’m so impatient 😭

    Honey and goat milk soap

Well, I’m still new at this and I put my honey in the oil mixture and then processed as normal. But when I pulled the loaf out of the refrigerator, it had cracked and looked discolored. In full disclosure, my recipe included honey and oatmeal.

    Honey and goat milk soap

Didn’t you say in previous post that you chill your soap after adding to mold? I’ve read and seen other makers talked about milk soaps and the need to stop gel phase or you’ll burn the milk. 🧐 Anyway, I did that and it’s been 24 hours since removing from the fridge. It’s still quit soft though 😕

    Honey and goat milk soap

I’ve made my first honey and oat goat milk soap. It’s now in the fridge. Do I need to let the loaf come to room temp before cutting? Or should I wait several days?

    Honey and goat milk soap

Late to the party but couldn't you have added the honey water to the oils and then add your lye?

    Gelling in peanuts 😜

2nd attempt at forcing gel phase. I put my soap, with its cover, in a plastic box full of those styrofoam peanuts and let it there until the next day. I don’t think it’s particularly shinny but I could cut, which is a plus. I don’t like the “swirl”. Looks like black and white camo. 😕 I’m using...
