What soapy thing have you done today?

@Kcryss, scoured this site and YouTube but didn't find much about water slide decals on soap. Really curious about the details. Any info you can share, or site to refer to? Thanks!

Heart shaped soap with holes! (Uh... not what I wanted!)

Hi All, I'm making 50 light purple hearts for some friends wedding. These will be given out to all the guests and I am doing this as a gift to my friends. The wedding is a few months away and I just poured my first set of 10 (bought 10 molds off of Amazon) They are sold as individual molds and...

How are you offsetting the cost of Olive Oil?

Just wanted to add that I am thankful for this thread! Went to Costco this past weekend and the 2-pack OO was $57.99!!! Yikes! I'll be looking at the substitutions that were mentioned here. Happy Soaping everyone!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've been missing in action for about a month now and it's good to be back! It started with a nice vacation and ended with my computer completely locking me out for a number of reasons! Long story short, I had to redo all the passwords for most all my accounts!!! Now that that is done, I'm back...

ENTRY THREAD for the March 2024 Challenge - Stone Soaps

Hi All, I am currently on Spring Break with my wife and son. I didn’t get as far as I wanted on this but am submitting my pic. I actually carved it but am not at home. 🙄Also, @Vicki C , I just realized that I won’t have access to internet to vote so please excuse me from voting. Hope everyone...

March 2024 SMF Challenge - Stone Soaps!

Hi All! I finally got some 'rock soaps' from the molds I made and...uh... I'm disappointed. Apparently the silicone that I used to make soap had quite a few bubbles in it and this caused my rocks to have bubble/craters on the surface of them. I did notice that both parts A and B had many many...

    Is this mold?

So cool that you could do that! Great confirmation!!! Great learning lesson too!

What soapy thing have you done today?

@AliensrReal I think the soap is okay, but it is more busy looking than I prefer and I was going for a more simple marble type texture. Seems if I had done a different kind of cut to the soap it would have looked more marbled looking and less busy. It was definitely a great learning experience...

What soapy thing have you done today?

@Shelley D, Thank you! It was a lot of work and it was 3 intense hours of making and then pouring 9 separate pours into the mold. I will do it again because I think I cut it wrong and I want to see how it's supposed to look. That said, I think I'll wait a week or so before I attempt again! 🤣...

    Washing tips?

@GuacamoleSalad, I wait until I have a small pile of microfiber towels and put it into the washing machine and run as a normal wash but with hot water. I wash them by themselves though I do sometimes add a regular bathroom towel for fun and notice after wash and dry it has some of the soap...

New to the craft, but need to jump in with 2 feet running!

@Kram Welcome! I love your enthusiasm! I've been soaping regularly for about 8 months now and hope at some point to actually sell some soap. What others have said here is right on point. There are a lot of nuances to soaping, a lot of techniques to learn if you want to utilize your creativity...

    Washing tips?

@GuacamoleSalad. I just wanted to chime in and say that like others here I use the microfiber towels just after making my soap and then clean with dish soap the next day. When I first started I just let everything sit overnight and while I try to get all the batter out of everything (I'm better...

    Is this mold?

I was wondering the same thing. Cool that you know microbiology and can do a gram-negative stain. I'm curious now to hear if that's the culprit... For those who may not know about Serratia marcescens , here's the first few sentences from Wikipedia "Serratia marcescens (/səˈreɪʃiə...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hi All, So yesterday I posted about me making the Marble cold stone process soap that Tree Marie made a YT video of. I finished cutting up the bars about an hour ago and afterwards began to think that I just did something really dumb! I cut the slabs from the mold in the typical vertical cuts...

March 2024 SMF Challenge - Stone Soaps!

@not_ally the largest rock is about 3.5 inches long by 2.5 inches wide and about 1.5 inches tall. The smallest is about 2.5 inches around and 1.5 inches tall. I completely understand about not wanting to waste the silicone. I know that I could have been more efficient if I had made some kind of...
